Hey all im starting 40k (in a week or so when i've got the money) with a space marine army and I want to paint them with this theme:

I'm a skilled painter and detailing come naturally to me, but painting minitures will be new to me.

What I want to know is, what paint colors do I need to paint the Exorcist Chapter?

This is what I'm guessing:

- chaos black undercoat,
- red gore for the base red,
- mechrite red + blazing orange for the highlights?
- bubonic brown for the eagle with white highlights?
- white highlights elsewhere (shoulder pads for example)
- Snot green for base eye colour with scorpion green detailing and skull white highlight for light reflection.
- greys for the remaining parts

What do you guys think? am i on the right track here?

Sounds good to me. However, i would maybe have blood red on hand. You may need it for certain highlights or to further build up layers from the mechrite red. Seeing as your a skilled painter and by the sounds of it you'll be painting the metal in a NMM style. You may not need the grey as your quite skilled at painting. But, if you are getting grey get Codex Grey as its the halfway point.

Nice looking chapter, looks cool.

Be sure to post your progress.

Oh and welcome to Dakka

Of course, as an American, that means I must say that soccer sucks, and football (real football... you know, the one where you do everything with your hands) is 10,000 times as good. I mean, football players could probably beat up soccer players, even, because they actually know sports.

First off, welcome to Dakka.

Mechrite red is a basecoat and would go on before the red gore in my experience. Then blood red/blazing orange for highlights.

The chest eagle would most likely be bubonic brown, followed by bleached bone and finally skull white.

Otherwise I think you're bang on the money. Best of luck painting them.

Cheers for the help guys, I'll post up my results next week when I've got everything. It's bloody expensive hah.

And yep I thought it was a pretty slick theme. And I haven't seen many people paint the Exorcist chapter so I thought why not .

Hi there, it's good to see someone else loving the Exorcists. I started from a darker red, Mec mixed with some Chaos Black and Badab Black. Mec red as the mid tone, and blood red/Mec mix high light or there abouts. Followed that with a Badab wash, to darken the red and mute the tones so they don't get mistaken for Blood angels. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/251327.page My thread, though I only go as far as good table top quality.

The muzzle of the helmet should be black would be the only small point, and have you used self print transfers or is it painted? The chapter symbol looks great for it whichever way

For highlighting black, use grey not white. For highlighting the brown on the eagle, use bleached bone and then white, not just white.

For the rimming, its a grey coat, then a black wash, (or simply a very dark grey) then highlight with Codex grey. I personally wouldn't use Blood Red, its too bright for that model. looks like they've washed the Mecrite with somthing...

When you call an intimate moment with your partner "the Assault Phase"

Is that followed by a pile-in move?

That brings a whole new meaning to the term "Hit and Run"

Can that be following a deep strike, or do you have to wait until the next round?
