Not to be confused for the World of WarCraft Boardgame also by Fantasy Flight Games...
I tried this out for the first time this past Saturday and had plenty of fun. The rules weren't too bad to learn. The flow of the game was pretty good. It took us 6 hours to finish but I think that was mostly because we were stopping constantly to read through the rules... given that we now know a little bit more how to play I'm sure next session shouldn't take that long.
It plays 2 - 4 but I think some expansion packs extend that. I'm not sure. I've bought a couple but haven't opened them up yet.
It has the feel of WoW (or other mmo's) where you complete quests, encounter mobs, partake in special events, and combat other players. I didn't see much of a grouping aspect to it... I suppose you could have some players concentrate attacks on one player. Unlike mmo's, though, there is an end. The player who gets to 8 valor points (essentially victory points).
The production is really slick I think. The cards were of nice quality as well as the player pieces. The punched out counters were of a thick stock and seem like they can take a lot of wear from play.
I haven't tried Descent and I'm wondering if this is actually emulating it.
