I really do think it was worth it. Not sure if it would be worth returning every year. But since the last time I went was 2003, and I didn't need to endure an 8 hour bus ride from Ayr, I felt it was worth it.
Personally, I found the talks from Kelly and Cruddace (and yes, even Jervis) really quite interesting but then, I was always kind of interested in games design and thought processes.
I guess you can see your point about nothing of note being unveiled there, there wasn't much 'exclusive' or feeling by the end of it of, "I know something you don't know" - heck, the biggest news pieces, the tyranid codex and Ultramarines were already shown the next day on GW's own site. - That's not exactly 'viral marketing.'
Speaking purely economically though. If, over the years, I was wanting to get those Valkyries and Vulture. I would have maybe got the valkyries for £30 each from the web, then the vulture for a stonking £56 or so from forge world mail order. So, that's me past the price of the ticket just with those 3 models. Then, the free book and the 'terrain' piece takes off the coach price, and £5 off the 'Art of Clint Langley' book.
Then, I add in all the exclusive models and the death riders, which I wouldn't have needed to pay p&p for, and really I think, overall, I'm 'in' the money out of it all.
Plus, it was a day out, I got to see a friend from back home there and on top of that, saw lots of really cool models and battles as well.
So, final recommendation. If you're into forgeworld for more than a set of doors and it isn't a huge travel investment, go for it.
