Hello, with Old Glory restarting their 40% off Command Decision miniatures sale, I have been contimplating buying a small force of panzer grenadiers and a panzer company.  (hard to pass up three Pz IV Hs for $12.60) My question is this, what base sizes are used for FOW?  I notice that there are three sizes, so what are they?  Which unit types use which bases?

Thanks.

Small base: Command stands, special weapon teams like light mortars, anti-tank rifles and bazookas.

Medium base: Infantry, majority of gun teams including medium mortars (although these face the short end of the base).

Large base: Artillery, larger AT guns, heavy mortars, cavalry

Anomalies: Staff teams (sometimes medium bases, mostly large bases), Soviet scouts (were packaged with both small and medium bases, this may have been fixed by now...)

Tanks are not required to be based, but medium tanks can ususaly be made to fit a medium base.

Any questions?

Amongst the Stars, In the Night

The physical dimensions are:
Small Base: 1 1/4" x 1"

Medium Base: 2" x 1 1/4"

Large Base: 2 1/2" x 2"

Smilin' Dave's list is pretty dead on. The game designers themselves have, however, mentioned on the Battlefront (FoW) website that those base sizes are but guidelines, the key thing just being that you're consistent through your army. The group I (infrequently) game with all started off with Command Decision and our armies were orignally based using that ruleset's suggestions. Despite being slightly smaller than the FoW system, it hasn't adversely affected gameplay in the least (same for vice versa, that is, using FoW basing in CD3/4). An advantage of the slightly larger sizes for FoW is that they do allow more dioramic basing. Enjoy!

Ps. You can also vary the number of figs on each base for variety's sake and/or to stretch out your dollars. Same stats, just a base with less figs = battle hardened vets, while one with more figs = green repple depples. Whatever yer whim may be.

Thanks Nyarlathotep, the physical size is what i was going for. I like to magneticaly base figures, so I may be buying some pre magnitized bases.
