The inat faq interprets and creates rules for the Adepticon tournament and they are written to suit the guidelines of their tournament. I’ve read some of them and some seem to be ok but a lot of them seem to be way off. It also seems They are long and sometimes a bit complicated to be used in a pick-up game or even for house rules for more then a half dozen friends. How realistic is it to use them and in what situation would you use them or would you never use them? With that being said and some people not even using the GW faqs I would like to know how people generally view / use them or just your opinion of them.

Your Grandmaster is the only good leprechaun that remains, all the others turned to whiskey.

Pick Up games might be an issue, but for a group of friends or a club, they pose no issue really.

Although the INAT is primarily produced for Adepticon, it is written as a general tournament document, there is nothing in them specifically tailored for the Adepticon tournaments, which is why it isn't just called the 'Adepticon FAQ'.

As a completely unofficial document, it is intended to be used by any tournament or group of people that find it useful, and nothing more. So if you're running a tournament and you don't want to go through the hassle of identifying and clarifying how you're going to rule on ever single issue, you can just use the INAT FAQ, even though you may find a few rulings don't match your personal opinion, it may just be easier for you to use the document as-is and move on to more important things for organizing the event. Alternatively, you can always just use the rulings you like and put out a list of things you're going to rule differently on.

The same is true for a gaming group, but you really should have everyone decide to use it or otherwise the fact that it is completely unofficial means it can end up leaving a bad taste in the mouth of someone who strongly doesn't agree with some of the rulings. Since it is rather comprehensive it can just be an easy way for a gaming group to come to a conclusion on a number of issues, but just as with a tournament organizer, there is nothing stopping you from using the document and then just changing the rulings you don't like for your gaming group.

The INAT is never really appropriate to use in a pick-up game unless both players agree ahead of time that they like it and want to use it to resolve disputes.

As for the rulings being long-wided and sometimes confusing. . .I'll take full blame for that.

I do take great pains trying to make sure that all the rulings don't unintentionally lead to creating further issues, as hastily or short rulings (such as in the official GW FAQs) sometimes tend to do. Of course, the offshoot of that practice does often mean that the rulings are a bit long and wordy, especially if you're not already acutely aware of what little rules loophole the FAQ is trying to close ahead of time.

But yeah, the FAQ certainly isn't for every occasion or for every player. At the very least if you hate it you can always take all the questions from it and use it as a basis to write your own FAQ for your tournament or gaming group.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

When you have a group of friends or a gaming group you really don’t need it. You often times play rules a certain way and you are all on the same page.

It is best used with you play with other groups that use other house rules, because it is good for resolving disputes, and getting everyone on the same page.
