so i have a skaven army and need help against vampire counts i know the basic kill the general but my opponent is smart and keeps him either godly mounted or in the way back invocationing everything. how can i get past this strategy?
i have 4 blocks of 20 clanrats 5 rat swarms 4 characters and 1 block of 20 plague monks that can be taken transfered around into plague cencor bearers
does anyone have an idea of how i can get past his strategy or if i need any different units.?

A great way to ruin the VC's day is to bring TONS of Magic Defense.

Although killing the general is a tried and true strategy, the Undead depend heavily on their magic phase. Take away that magic, and all you have at the core is a bunch of crap troops that cause fear.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Lightning cannons are great to get him if he tries to hide in the back. Some gutter runners with an assassin would do that too. But yeah, if you can shut down the magic, you are on your way.

Big enough to have a fall down template. Yup, that's me!

sounds good what would you suggest dispel scrolls and +1 to dispell? i only play him 1500pts so far so i dont have to worry about his lords but i do have to worry about me only having 1 option for wizards

Yeah, sniping him with a Warp Lightning Cannon would work. A decent amount of jezzails would get him eventually, it'd take some time and runs the risk of being accused of being cheesy.

HereComesTommorow what do you mean by risk looking cheesy
most VC armies ARE cheese itself
any edge you can make on an easier army is an edge worth it.

on the OP note
shut down his magic phase (or at least as much as you can) and make sure to use some ranged stuff to blast his vampire back to the grave

Make sure you dispell Van Heles (did I spell that right?), as long as they don't get the charge off your fine. If you have the extra DD you can always take care of summoning spells.

As said before they are poor troops that cause fear, but are a real pain in the arse if they acctually charge.

How many points are you playing with?

At 2k vamps are annoying for scaven to deal with currently.

Vamps are one of the opponents rat ogres really shine against. Hitting on threes against skeletons means those str 5 attacks really shine.

In general you need a squad of 10 jezzales to kill black knights and blood knights (in that order).
You need some censur bearers to crush anything if they get off a flank charge (this shouldn't be to hard).
One squad of plague monks 18 or 24 strong to go with the censur bearers.
And 4-5 units of clan rats backed by 4-5 units of slaves.

This gives you a large base of troops that should outnumber anything he can field against you (even after a few invocations) and can wrap around his flanks easily. Flanked skeletons will die eventually no matter how much he throws invocation at them.

Unfortunately the only guy you can have that could possibly take on his chars is your warlord with a weeping blade. It is best to flank or divert his lord's unit and flank everything else (you should have no less than 2x the amount of units he does).

You could try for the unbeatable magic defense but he will still be able to get spells past you and you will have to spend a huge amount on it. Not worth it in my eyes.

With the new book it becomes a little easier because of the rat abomination greatness and the vermin lord isnt half bad either (expensive though).
