Who is the hardest opponent you've ever faced? Try keep the focus on whether they beat you through an amazing (or Cheesy) list instead of luck or finicky skill

For me it was in a tournament, the guy used Nurgle Chaos Daemons, and had both Special Characters... i had IG so he had quickly tallied up more than enough deaths to make his army overbored through the chair guy's ability. I did not enjoy the game...

I remember the hardest game I ever had was vs full mech SM, with landraider transports full of Termie death - I was playing DH with SM allies, and lost a lot of forces early, leaving me on the defensive.

My opponent made one mistake - coming a bit close with his transports to ensure a full charge.

A last ditch assault by 4 combat squads of marines assaulting out of vehicles and the Inq retinue to completely surround the 2 landraiders, which managed somehow to blow them up, and my forces completely surrounding the unit caused a wipeout of the units within.

But man, I was going to get creamed before that.

But don't get all bent out of shape if your opponent looks disdainfully upon your lack of originality while tabling you in 4 turns because he's got beating SMs down to an exact science after fighting them for hundreds of consecutive games.

A daemon hunters army with two leman russ? He was cheating. Daemonhunters are only allowed one as an ally.

I had 500 pts (what I brought to paint) IG allied with 1500 pts deamons, VS GK... I did alright, but when my ally evaporated it was 470 points against 1750... not pretty

6000 points IG, Leviathins 8th company, (store regiment) 60% painted
4500 points Empire 80-90% painted!
2500 Ogres 2% painted
WIP Biker Battle Company 95% painted
2500 Points Isstavan Drop site massacre Iron Hands (still waiting for dat codex)
I managed to play a 1750 point game with minimal proxieing on the first day DE came out. go me!

Hardest game I ever played was vs an imperial fists player in a local tourney. He had 2 vindicators, a HS land raider, 2 termie squads with land raiders, lysander, and a termie chappy. It was brutal. I eventually whittled him down to just his 2 tactical squads + footslogging assault termies, but he won by contesting both my objectives on turn 6 with a lucky run move from his termies and his tactical squad.

Hardest Opponent would be mine own Ulthwe army: Ok I now play tyranids and sold half my eldar ulthwe army I didnt want. But when it was up at full strength, it had around 40 storm guardians and 2 farseer [eldrich storm], 10 wraithguard and a mix of fluffy units. I gave it to a friend to face my new nids army and got sqwashed by turn 4 I was out of models. He charged the stormies at me and won with almost no loses!! and the 2 eldrich storm a turn hurts plus mind war.

Yes, i find footslogging forces struggle greatly against static/shooty armies

One of the last games I played in 4th I played my Nids against an IG player with 3 Bassies and a ton of mortars. Normally not a problem. The only catch was that this player had an eye like a laser tape measure.... He did not miss with a single guess range weapon the whole game!!

i had a match where m eldar faced an imperial guard legion with a baneblade. It was hard, but i had bright lances. His commanders met my rangers, and died. His sentinels met my wraithlord. And little guardsmen met mr eldritch storm. it was hard, hard to not kill everything.

Incorrect in 5th Edition. Now one Heavy Support choice is a Leman Russ Squadron which includes 1-3 Leman Russ tanks of any variants.

My little brothers 3-shot longbarrelled mega plasma cannon thing (05 vehichle design rules) Destroyed my Skull tower. In the first 2 turns of the game. Skull tower was 700pts. Game was 1000, (we were all testing our apoc units)
Funnily enough, thats still the only time i've ever lost a game... Oh, and i drew once, but other than that, im a clear winner

When you call an intimate moment with your partner "the Assault Phase"

Is that followed by a pile-in move?

That brings a whole new meaning to the term "Hit and Run"

Can that be following a deep strike, or do you have to wait until the next round?

Honestly, your all going to laugh at me.

The first time I played against Necrons with my nephew. I dumbed my lists down so he could get the joy of killing alot of Orks. Not thinking ahead of time about the WBB rule. I had NO PKs in my army. I foot slogged threw 4 turns of insane guass death only to charge his ranks, and take a MILLION hits, and then come back to life right afterwards.

Oh my god did I learn from that mistake lol. Note to Ork players going against Necrons, take PKs if your going to charge them lol. It was seriously so grueling once we got into HtH

I'm not going to count single-time tourney opponents, as I have no idea if those few that have beaten me did so through luck or whatever.
Within our local group (fairly large, 60+ paid members, down from 100+ last year plus others that just show up to play), my nemesis is Kevin F. Doesn't matter what army either of us is playing, he's gonna beat me. I've won exactly one game against him and it was sheer luck. He was testing a list that featured two large squads of deep striking Khorne Termies and lost one of the two units to scatter.

I remember, bringing a very friendly CSM list to the table, versus a VERY competitive (to not call it fully matured Brie or Gruyere cheese... Perhaps even the Ubersmelly Corsican varieties...) IG player. I lost everything by the end of my turn 4, I had killed one ogryn and two lame guardsmen. His friendly fire had whiped about 5 plasma dudes of his own.

I can bend minds with my spoon...

In 7 years of playing 40k, I've only beaten Tau twice. Once was recently against a Newer player in a touranment. the other time was at Hard Boys semis where we both agreed to keep playing a sixth and seventh turn to avoid a tie. I got lucky in turn seven and massacred him, but I couldn't go to nationals so he ended up with my spot anyway.
