So a friend and I have decided to house rule some special characters for the Chaos Chapters that got put to the waist side when the current version of the codex came out. We are trying to give them some of the flavor that the 3.5 codex had without them being overpowered. Here is the one I created for the Word Bearers, wanted to see what people thought as far as rules and points.

Marduk, Dark Disciple of the Word Bearers 185 points
WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
6 5 4 4 3 5 3 10 3+/4+*

Wargear:
Power Armor
Bolt pistol
Frag grenades
Krak grenades
Melta bombs
Accursed Crozius

Special Rules:
Independent Character
Fearless
Liturgies of Hate
Word of Lorgar
Daemon Host

Accursed Crozius: During the Horus Heresy most of the Chaplains of the Traitor Legions resisted the taint of Chaos and were murdered by their brethren. The Chaplains of the Word Bearer Legion embraced Chaos willingly though and as an act of faith ritually desecrated their once sacred weapons. These cursed crozius have a powerful effect as talismans of Chaos, providing that even the most pious of the Emperor’s followers can be turned to the Path of Damnation.
The Accursed Crozius is a daemon weapon and counts as a Personal Icon. Additionally, the bearer enjoys the protection of the Dark Gods and receives a 4+ Invulnerable save

Liturgies of Hate: On a player turn in which he assaults, Marduk and all members of any squad he has joined can re-roll failed rolls to hit.

Word of Lorgar: During battle Marduk recites passages for the Book of Lorgar. All battle brothers within earshot of this fight with merciless resolve.
All friendly units within 12” of Marduk receive the “Stubborn” universal special rule.

Daemon Host: The Word Bearers specialize in summoning daemons to support their host.
For every Chaos Space Marine unit with an icon one corresponding daemon unit can be taken using the rules and points cost from Codex: Chaos Daemons (ex. A unit of Chaos Space Marines takes an Icon of Khorne, which then allows a unit of Bloodletters to be taken as one troop choice.).

Dude sounds cool. Run a stoy campaign, take pics and post it to the Battle Reports. Most importantly, have fun!

I think he should cost atleast 250 pts

2500 pts | 1500 pts | 1000 pts | 1000 pts

His abilities but stats and special abilities are very similar to Pedro Kantor, who is less points then how much I have made Marduk. If you can give me some details why you think he should cost more I would kind to know that way I can compare to other things out there.

Once you start using pluagebearers or bloodletters as troops coming in very accurately you will see why he's undercosted.

Accurate deepstrike (Icons) in caos daemons cost 25 points each and don't work 1st turn.

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.

O H I am in the Webway...

185 Rofl? Maybe try his weapon as it is a daemon weapon that he has control over and receives D3 bonus attacks each round of combat.Take off the Melta Bombs. The 4+ save can stay.

With the Summoned Daemons rule I say around... 230-240.

Instead of Word of Lorgar giving Stubborn say they can re roll all moral checks and he gives +1 attack to all models within 12"

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you

Why not instead have Summoned Daemons count towards the minimum number of troops rather than complicate things by adding in another codex?

At the very least I'd make it like Daemonhunters where you can only take a certain number of FOC choices and units.

Looks pretty neat, gotta say. I'm not going to suggest a points cost, because I don't have the eye for that, but I think it might be a good idea to clarify if the daemon weapon is Chaos Undivided or a different mark. I mean, I'm sure that anyone who knows Word Bearers will assume that it's Chaos Undivided, but these are the types of rules questions that people get all sorts of bent out of shape about, ya know?

I like him!

You should probably clarify in his rules that the Codex: Daemons allies are brought in like normal reserves, instead of using the Daemonic Infestation rules.

The sink.

I agree that 185 is a bit cheap for the ability to take real demons. Unless perhaps those demons aren't troops? Make them elites instead.
