Subject: combining guard and tau - would like opinions on an idea

i have a small guard and tau force i was thinking of combining into one large guard force.
i had two ideas on a fluff reason and wanted to see which sounded better.
1) renegade guard force with looted tau gear.
use hammerheads as russes (modified to not look 100% hammerheadish), some guys in tau armor, some tau as guardsmen but converted to look somewhat renegade and the fluff for it would be evident either through a crucified ethereal or leader showing the death of the ethereal somehow. through the loss of the ethereal these tau were able to be manipulated into the guard force due to the lack of his guiding presence. kind of like the way farsight deviated once his force lost their ethereals.
2) guard indoctrinated into a tau force.
pretty much the same equipment use as above but keep the tau cleaner and the force more uniform overall. these would simply be guard who have joined the greater good.
i think i like the idea on 1 personally as i have some deamon figs i'm going to throw into the list and i have an idea for some tau-esque crawling weapon carriers that i want to use which dont fit a standard tau theme.
just throwing this out to bounce an idea of some folk.
any thoughts?

Idea 2 is covered by the Gue'la auxiliaries put out in the Chapter Approved days.
The rules were also published on the old 'Eye of Terror' several years ago.
Someone should have a copy they could send you for reference and review purposes.

GW did rules for inducted IG into Tau armies when the Tau were first released, you might be able to get them on-line somewhere still...

yep, that article told you how to include a unit of guardsmen but thats about it.
there wasnt anything detailing the use of an entire force or how the Tau went about incorporating press ganged armies.
