So I'm collecting an IG army for the new edition, but I don't have the Codex yet. I'll be picking it up, but I need to get my first batch of minis at the same time (it's a birthday present from the wifey). What are the "can't miss" purchases that I should make? I'm going with the Cadian figs, so I was thinking maybe a squad of Cadian Shock Troops and a Russ? I could be way wrong though. Any input is appreciated.

Regular Guardsmen, lots of them, you need between 3 and 5 boxes for a single Troop choice. And only Troops can hold objectives

once youve got your guardsmen get some stormies in a chimera, but be sureits the mail order ones. the kaskrins are gak

Cadians and Russes are a great way to start in on Guard, tho get the new Demolisher kit as the building goes a lot smoother.

You'll always need Guardsmen, and Russes are fantastic.

The rest is season to taste.

Thanks for all of the help, gang! I think I'm going to go ahead and order 'em then. From Amazon I suppose, unless someone has a better suggestion for the money-saving.

So the Kasrkin are garbage, huh? That's a shame, I like the semi-blurry pictures I've seen of them. I was thinking of buying a set and painting them up as Naval Security troopers.

Edit: I heard somewhere that you could buy beret-wearing heads separately. Is that a fact?

I hope you mean put Veterans in the Chimera and not Storm Troopers.

Troopers are waaaaay over costed to be good.

Veterans may have weaker weapons, but they have better options.

That's true! I'll have to look into that. I hate stripping figs almost as much as I hate painting though, so that may make itself an obstacle.
