Im thinking of starting a Tau army, mostly for fluff, and I like the way they look. And they are one of the few armys that could possibly rock the digital pattern camo. So I give samples of the goods, and want your opinion (and I know it will be a long painstaking process, but it will look cool). Comments?

Ahhh, good 'ol Camo. I'm in the army myself, so we use green digital. Thats the one in the middle, but I prefer desert or urban. When it comes to Tau, I think Desert would be better.

I've seen urban camo used to great effect. It can really look cool if it's well applied. To get it to be that exact will be a chore though. If you think you're up to it, I say do it.

Desert MARPAT would look best I think. As for the bottom NWU (Navy Working Uniform) I already called dibs on that useless camo scheme!

I have 6 sets of the ACU's at home and I've noticed they tend to fall into two color groups- more greenish or more greyish. So I hope that helps if you want to tweak the colors a little bit.

I've seen a Guard player apply the ACU scheme to his vehicles and it came out pretty good. He took the basic colors and brightened them up a little though, combining the muted ACU green with a brighter sand color. It'd be a natural fit for Tau.

IMO it will be difficult to make it work.

The way the camo works is that when you are far enough away that the eye can't resolve the individual pixels, it becomes a general blur.

Obviously your individual pixels on a Tau infantry are going to be tiny, which I don't see how you can paint. Maybe it would be do-able if you made the pixels bigger and had fewer off them.

I agree with Napalm above that you probably want to make the colours a bit brighter to let the pattern stand out more.

It doesn't seem like sense, but the point of camo on wargame models isn't to camouflage them, it's to make them stand out and look good.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I think either desert or urban camo would look cool on Tau.

Casting darkness, deep inside your mind
Screaming razors, resonating down your spine
Wearing you down, I'll haunt you where you sleep
Vulnerable, I make the guilt sting

Fear of the dark Bathe the world in spite, it keeps you in place

Totally agree with Kilkrazy. Making camo on such small figs is counterproductive to looks on the table.

If *I* were to do it, I'd use large squares on the vehicles and suits, but not infantry or drones.

Gathering the Informations.

Splinter camo is the way to go, or the chocolate chip/"splotch" patterns work best on the tabletop.
