After a weekend of painting and thinking, this is the colour scheme i came up with for my upcoming mech/urban themed imperial guard army.

Suggestions for improvements are more than welcome and ideas for cool looking urban rubble bases too

Hey,

My guard are also urban fighters, so heres my ideas:

Paint job is good, but a little plain, perhaps break up the cloth with some camo? I recall the GW site had some good articles on how to do it.

Also, the grey shoulder pads look a little bland. I'd suggest painting a red strpe (your spot colour) on them.

For effective bases, bits of slate, old CoD extras and barbed wire work well. Straws work well as pipes I've found.

Anyway, just my opinion, hope it goes well for you!

Edited because I can't spell

I think i will try to do some urban camo with some black, white and fortress grey dots. Oh and the shoulders will get squad markins in dark red when my army is complete.

Good stuff!

Start a P&M blog when you build the army- I'll definitely subscribe to that.

Can't wait to see how it comes out!

Looks really good, I'm using those heads for the guard army I'm building. I'd echo the suggestion that the shoulder pads need a regimental insignia or squad markings or somesuch, and maybe a tiny speck of white in the corner of the eyes to bring them out.

Seconding the addition of urban camo on the armor plates. Very Helghast looking. Look forward to seeing more.

I dig the scheme in general, though I think it could use a bit more shadeing, or maybe a wash? Devlan mud, perhaps?

I'd give it a 7/8 out of ten, it's very simple and striking but I think it definitely needs some squad markings and the such, which you where gonna do anyway, I think maybe white for the squad markings instead of red. In my opinion, I think red doesn't go to great over grey

Not bad... I'd give it a 4 out of 5. You might want to spice it up a bit. Just think of some colors that have great contrast but also make sense in a natural camouflage sense.

Orks are like those neighbor children who aren't invited to your parties and they come right in anyway.

I'm liking this scheme but I would maybe have done the trousers the same colour as the jacket and painted the leg greaves the same grey as the armour. Nice work though, looking forward to seeing a squad finished.

The colour scheme you suggest i acutally tried, but didnt think it looked as good as this one. Having just moved to study at the university i have ofcourse forgotten my camera. So progress pictures won't be available for some time. But i do happend to have some pics of the scheme you suggest.

My pig iron headed guardsmen are actually a very similar scheme to yours, but inverted! (there're some shots of them in my plog, linked in my sig)

The colours you've gone with work fine, though I think he could use a little highlighting. Maybe some urban camo on the fatigues, as well?

So should i do urban camo on the armour plates or one the clothing?

Highlight the armour with a slightly lighter grey, and leave the camo for the fatigues. Too much camo on a model may break it up well, but makes the model look cluttered.

im thinking of only doing camo on the legs, mostly because i have a hard time imagining the camo on the very dark jackets.

The legs definitely need breaking up- perhaps the jackets will seem better when your squad markings are in place.

Post some more piccys ASAP! I want to see your army develop!

I think it looks cool as is, but maybe to bring it out more you should add more highlights. Mix some codex grey with black (1:1) to highlight the clothing, and mix a little white with your grey to highlight the grey parts.
