I've played 40k in several different locations for about 2 years now but I've never ever faced a Chaos Daemon army (I've never faced Dark Eldar either, but that's another story..) . I faced a lot of Chaos Space Marines but not the pure Daemons. Was this a fairly recently newly released race that only got their codex in like 2007 or something?

I've decided to toy with the idea of starting up a Chaos Daemon Army. But I've read there were 4 different Daemon factions and they are not compatible. So in order for me to run an army will I be limited to ONLY nurgle units or Khorne units? Its a shame if you couldn't mix from various forms of daemons for greater variety.

Also I was wondering if anyone on Dakka Dakka has Chaos Daemons as their primary army.

Well I'm one of 4ish daemon armies where i play.

Now traditionally people only used one chaos god, (so an army of pure khorne or nurgle etc) Witht the new Dex you can though take units from any god, (though some people may frown - but frankly monogod armies are seriously hampred, and a little one dimensional).

So yes go look at the codex, and smile as your lord of change leads and army of nurglings, supported by furies to crush your enemies!

I agree with this sentiment, and have personally been fielding a healthy mix of each unit, but for God's sake don't field that particular army.

Daemons didn't even become an army until right before 5th edition came out so they are the newest army in 40k. You can take daemons from any god, no restrictions except that a herald can't join a squad of daemons from a different god. If anyone frowned on me taking units from multiple gods i would tell them that they can only take space marine tactical squads. Some people have weird ideas on fluff and i would rather not play them anyway.

Not to mention that not all daemons are completely subservient to one god if I remember correctly.

I play them. 15k points painted - an army for each god. They're a fun army.

You can mix and match any units, just like any other codex. So pick what you like best and go with it.

Yeah.. what was said earlier.. you couldn't play a daemon exclusive army till 5th edition and the new codex came out.. IMO I feel sorry for the CSM players... like I was, it was awesome the daemons finally got their own book, but it kinda gutted the CSMs.... Now the daemons, IMO, play similar to the eldar now. You would be sorry to play a mono chaos aspect army. Sure you could be pretty successful with an all Khorne army, but it would still be super specialized and a veritable one-trick-pony. You would do far better to have forces from all 4 aspects of chaos to have a truly successful army. Unless you have forces from Tzeentch, for example, your army is strictly close combat... which is the main aspect of the game, but can get REALLY painful since the sweeping advance rules were nerfed. Each aspect of chaos adds to the overall whole of your army. Each army has strengths which help to offset, though not completely, weaknesses in the other aspects...

P.S. Daemons not only are my primary 40k army they currently are my ONLY 40k army..
