I was just in my local Eason's (bookstore/stationary/magazines) and what did I discovery but a standard 3' wide GW rack with four AoBR sets, sundry ork and marine boxes, and a hanful of paints. Good luck with that GW (seriously I mean it I'm not being sarcastic).

I have been grossly misinformed about the kind of rack in this thread.

The combination of "rack" and " GW" usually means disgusting red-shirted manboobs

I am kind of curious as to whether anyone here ever got exposed to GW through a traditional non-gaming source (like a bookstore). Occasionally, I have seen GW items out of a gaming store or club environment and always wondered if anyone got sucked in that way.

I'm going with the preemptive "that's a Wave Serpent not a Falcon" here.

Toystore here. Friend of mine got 2nd. ed. 40K from the local toystore for his 11th or 12th birthday, I think. Got me hooked quickly and it grew from there. There weren't any place to buy models besides that store + the internet was a few years away...

Before I got into the hobby, they also had them at Barnes & Noble (big bookstore chain in the US). I was sorely tempted, but the price point was insane for someone who is just curious.

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness. ADB |

About 10 years ago GW did a test market thing using 12.50 "Toy Box" range box sets. These were mostely plastic kits of older or existing GW figs from Space HUlk, Warhammer Quest 2nd Ed bpx set and the like. The whole Idea ( as explained to me by my rep at the time) was to introduce GW to the Masses in regular retail stores. They were to accompany the Core box games and a few assorted core army boxes for a few of the more popular armies. As we know it didnt quite work or get off the ground, so maybe they are trying it again.

I've seen Lord of the Rings for sale in big book stores before, but back when the game was new. It's great if GW can branch out into more mainstream areas, but I think all those places would ever carry is starter sets and just a handful of other items. Your trusty GW or FLGS is the only place you'll be able to find a (mostly) full range of stuff.

Barnes and Nobles (a chain of bookstores around the US) had the LotR starter sets back when the movies came out, along with a few boxes here and there. Other than that I don't think I've seen anything else.

Here in the states they have dabbled with it from time to time.....in fact I got a rogue trader book with space marines box (old rtb01) shrinked together. I was already into GW then, but they had the book and box for like 5 more than the book price....
barnes and noble carried a bit (as previously stated), and they have tried with others from time to time...

Usually the game is not succesful without some sort of supporting group. I know at one point a set was supposed to be released at Toys R Us but I dont think it ever happened.

GW did a game with Milton Bradley called 'Battle Masters' - a goodly number of my Chaos Warriors, Chaos Beastmen, and Empire Knights are old Battle Masters miniatures rebased...
When the game tanked, discount toy stores were selling copies of the games for like $5 apiece. I must have bought a zillion of 'em.

What figs did that come with? It's on ebay atm and if it's got enough of a halfdecent quality, I'll buy it.
