I know that the Xbox 360 game "Gears of War" is very old news (almost 3 years old, I think), but I played the game for the first time last night.

While playing the game, I couldn't help but notice how the soldiers are modeled in "heroic proportions", and how their bulky armor makes them look something like a more "realistic" version of the Space Marines.

Maybe the character designer was influenced by Warhammer 40K?

Power armor isnt concept invented by GW.

Gears of War looks like generic power armor , nothing to do with GW design.

Any pics of these look alikes?

Finally I noticed this as soon as i started 40k. Gears of War/Star Wars Republic Commando the concept is very close to power armour just more metally if you catch my drift.

Big guy, big armor, big gun, big ego. Pretty standard sci-fi trope.

Space Marines doesn't afraid of anything.

Gathering the Informations.

Republic Commando armor is just that:

Armor. It's not actually powered armor. It's more of the armor you'd see Kasrkin wearing, or Elysians.

But yeah. The guys at Epic Games used to come in for games at the FLGS before it closed down, so I wouldn't be surprised if Space Marines didn't have a bit of influence there.

Well, I do understand that the concept of "power armor" wasn't invented by GW. (Was it Robert Heinlein, in his Starship Troopers?)

But the "heroic proportions", combined with "power armor" made me immediately think of Space Marines.

On the other hand, maybe it was just me

Well, games from EPIC have always been that way. Just look at any Unreal game. But as it's been mentioned, some guys there played 40k. They probably took some influence, whether it was in the character designs, Gothic architecture, or both.

Every idea is stolen you think your original .. no your breathing and I did that before you. You stole breathing stop it now..

I love it when starcraft people mention that unforgetable sentence "4ok stole.." then the NERD RAGE.

The gears of war guys are just gigantic roid monkeys. There not really that close to space marines at all.

In all my years of Wargaming, I've only heard this once, and I set the moron straight so harshly that I swear I could taste the tears on my tongue

And no, I don't really think the Gears of War characters look like Marines. Their legs maybe, but that's about it. The rest of their kit looks a lot more like the suits in Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (I think that was the name of it)
