Just have to ask a question, are most locations playing 2000 pts?
Reason- I have been reading army lists on this site and it seems to me that all the WHFB list are 2000 pts. I am from the central Texas area and our league/tourneys are at 2250pts.

I think a lot of casual players go at 2000 points, but anywhere that has at least a mild emphasis on tournaments and competitive play will play with 2250.

I'm in NJ/PA area. Typically the pick up games I play are 2000 pts, however I really enjoy the 1500 pts level and lower because it forces you to focus and plan games.
Tournament and GT play is 2250 in my area, occassionally a smaller shop will run 2000 pts, but rarely do people dip below that for events.
Fantasy seems to lend itself to really opening up at that 2250 point level, a lot of armies really come into their own at 2000, and some struggle if below that point value.

If you want interesting non-charactercentric games, try playing 1999 or 2999 points. The lack of Character/Special expansions really bring the focus to the troops.

We've been in playing 2250pts in the SW Missouri area. NW Arkansas runs a 2500pt IndyGT event called SooiePalooza http://www.sooiehammer.com/SooiePaloozaPortal.htm
I personally prefer 2250pts. The extra 250pts makes a big difference (to me at least).

I made it to the Sooie a couple of times in the past, good tourney. I guess i reall never played a game with less than 2250 pts.
Although i did play in a 500 pts toruney, that was alot of fun 7 rounds on a 4x4 table, if anyone is thinking about running a toruney try this. The rules are still on GW site i think, or in the Warbands book.
@Jin- i agree with your point on a game at 2999.
