We all know that the Leman Russ Execution with it's five Plasma Cannon shots is a good buy at 250 points. However is a Long Fang team with 5 plasma cannons for 190 points a good choice? With a Razorback for 225 points? With the Razorback you have the same weapons, you can split fire, but can't shoot while moving.

In this situation i would always take long fangs for the split fire. What armies are you facing? For example you can be shooting at 2 tacticals at one time which i love to do.

Personally I'm all over the 5 point Heavy Bolters for Long Fangs...they're the new Dakka pred.

The only thing about heavy bolter Long Fangs is that SW are already strong at killing infantry. They really need something to pop transports so they can use their strong assaults to kill the contents.

5 Missile launchers seem the most efficient build.
Cheap, long range, high strength for Light/medium AV, powerful enough to punch through power armor, or switch to horde control.

Plasma Cannons do look fierce, but a bit more expensive, overheat is a problem for everyone.

I think a sprinkle would be decent?
3 Missiles and 2 plasma cannons? Split fire of course, whoever long that lasts.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I tend to agree, 5 missiles is the way we're going to see them get played, but 5 plasma blasts split between things could be deadly. Also with split fire you can use 2 or 3 to pop a transport and then the rest to kill what pops out while it's still clustered up.

Sort of like the missile/plasma, why not 2 Lascannon 3 Plasma if you have the points. Crack a transport, kill it's payload sort of deal.

Add a plasma gun on the battle leader and a WG Terminator w/ cyclone and that's about the best shooting a marine unit is ever gonna manage...

I don't think that would work, as even though it can split fire the whole unit still has to resolve its fire all at once.

@Jackmojo:
First Point: A battle leader shooting = not split fire...so it's not all pros.
Second Point: Agreed with you.

I'm thinking once they're close enough for the plasmagun to come into play, you don't want them getting any closer, hence some focused fire.

I'm also more impressed with their nice cheap guns then with the splitting fire ability, as it strikes me as situational, Its not as if 5 heavy weapons is really all that much overkill against most of the threatening units in the game.

Long fangs are very good for their points in the new dex, I am considering 2 units of them, one unit as 5 missile launchers and one unit with 3 las 2 plas

I will also be running Logan Grimnar with one of the squads for relentless/tankhunting awesomeness.

consider also running 5 multimeltas in a drop pod with Logan, Relentless droppodding tank-death.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Works so awesomely and fills the big old gap that you find when you try and drop just infantry in a full pod assault.

Yeah, Logan joining a squad of drop podding Long Fangs is a very attractive option. Relentless heavy weapons ftw!

Back on topic - plasma cannons are fabulous for anti-MEq and light/medium vehicle shooting, but of course are useless against AV14. So an all-plasma squad would be great, but I'd suggest you'll need another squad with lascannon or multimeltas too. The all-missile launcher squad does seem the most cost-effective all-rounder option, thanks to the nice cheap missile launchers.

You guys seem to be right, if you can't see the units inside to target them until after the shooting starts, you can't have your squad split fire to them. That makes it a better option to go with a unit of 5 Lascannons, paired with teams of 3 missiles, 2 plasma. Lascannons pop transports, frags and plasma finish them off.

Wow mate! 5 relentless MM with split fire?!?! In a drop pod!!

I don't usually agree with all those people who moan about the latest power build, - but that is SOO BROKEN!

Makes my combi-melta podding sternguard seem pretty lame

I think the best part about that build is that then you have a Close-combat monster right in the enemies lines. any CC-oriented army will want to assault you, and although Logan will end up dead he is sure to drop more than a couple of enemies with him.

consider logans pod smashing onto a Gazghkull wagon, killing the wagon on the top of turn 1, then getting hit with an assault on the bottom of turn 1, elect to use powerfist insted of frostblade and on average kill gazzy! (and get killed in return, but then what happens to the rest of his army, roflcopter)

or if its the top of turn 2 when the orks charge, and they hit you with a Waaagh, then you have blown their waaggh before it can be put to best use! Ha!
