Subject: Making a snow/tundra board

I've done a quick section search and cant seem to find a decent article on this so hopefully I havent duplicated a post.
I recently bought the realm of battle board and am going to do it in a snow/tundra theme. Mainly a snow effect but with grassy areas where the snow has melted/receded.
The skulls I intend to nuke down and turn into mini lakes/water.
Ive just completed two warhammer forest packs in the scheme (black undercoat, white drybrush with shadow grey highlight on the rocks) and am quite pleased with it.
I intend to follow up with this for the main board but wondered if anyone has completed a similar board.
I've found two in the gallery sections which are nice but its hard to tell exactly what was done with them.
The guys in my GW store had all sorts of complex ideas but tbh, in general, Im a relatively simplistic painter and arent very good at advanced techniques.
Thanks.

I've seen a nice simple effect for adding snow to tree's buildings... Spray from almost above with a slight angle with glue onto the piece, then seive snow scatter so it falls, then tap off. It comes out looking like the snow has fallen naturally with the direction from the glue adding that wind swept look. I'm not sure how but some friends made a santas workshop once with a nice thick layer of snow on the roofs. I think it was a think coart or artex with a scatter of sand then painted. They did a 4'X8' bard the same way. Also used moodel railway pine trees, glued to bases painted as a muddy forest floor then used the above technique to add snow, so under the trees was bear with it getting thicker towards the edge of the base. I would suggest practising on a few boxes or something to get the hang of spraying the glue at the right angle and force though or you could ruin the peice using too much glue. Good luck! Show us some pictures when it's done. and the ice pools/lakes sound like a great plan! I'm not really a fan of those skulls myself.

Does your GW not paint it/flock it for you?

I dunno if it was just a deal that our store offered for a while, but if you supplied the paints and flock, they did the board for you.
This might be slightly affected by the fact that I'm friends with the manager/store clerks, but he seems to do this for anyone who buys the board and supplies the stuff to do it, or he charges a little extra for using a kit to do it.
*Shrug*
But to keep on topic, I really like your idea of getting rid of those skulls in the cracks... they ruin the board imo.
I find that a bit of greenstuff here and there to form snow drifts works out really well.

Seems someone up there was listening.
One small note: I tried the "over spraying" technique on one of the forests and didnt care for it much, I thought it made it look too "frosty" and it didnt pick out detail too well.
