Subject: Competitive High Elves?

Sure Space Wolves Land Raider Pilot

Hey all, I have decided to start a new Fantasy army, and since the one I own currently is Daemons, I wanted to distance myself from that a bit. Not that I am complaining, but a lot of other people do, so I figured, I'd stay away from the big 3(Daemons, VC, DE) for now, and do something much different.
Where I usually play, the best players play Daemons, Empire, Warriors of Chaos, Vampires, typically, so whatever I come up with will have to be at least somewhat capable of staying in the game with the big power lists. For instance, one player(Daemons) runs quite a few power dice, 20 or more depending on points. So please keep that in mind.
Before I start throwing my lists out, are there any no-brainer choices that I need to include out the gate? Or perhaps a list that is pretty much the standard for High Elf competitive lists?
Any help is appreciated.
Clay

Now, I don't play High Elves, but I suggest taking some Pheonix Guard. A 4+ Ward Save is the biggest middle finger to ANY high-strength unit.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

If Special Characters are allowed, I'd say Teclis is almost a definite. Otherwise, a solid Star Dragon Prince.

When you say "solid".....
Star Lance + Vambraces of Defense?
Star Dragon..
Something like that?

Well, there're generally two builds of Star Dragon Princes that people seem to deploy.
The first is the more aggressive Star Lance Dragon-rider Prince (I forget exactly what the prefered armor kit is, I think it was Dragon Armor, shield + Vambraces) or it might be Armor of Caledor + Guardian Phoenix.
The second is the more defense-oriented Prince set up which has the Armor of Caledor, Vambraces of Defense and a Halberd. Amulet of Light if you think you're gonna see wraiths.

One of the best keep secrets, HE spearmen.
Have a block 7 wide and 4 deep (they fight in 3 ranks) that = 22 atks strike first when charged. I would always take the charge with these guys. Yeah only strength 3 but you still rolling 22 dice. Now add a fighting hero.
Dragons- I would only take a Dragon mage if you really want a dragon in your army.
Phoenix guard are a solid choice.

If you are playing a 20 PD daemon player and know it ahead of time.
Prince with starlance on a horse (or Tyrion)
Noble bsb banner of world dragon mounted (makes unit immune to all spells)
Dragon Princes x 10 FC std of balance (ITP)
mage lvl 2 scroll x2
mage lvl 2 scroll x2
2 unit archers x10
4 bolt throwers
SM x 14-21 (whatever points you have left) FC banner of magic resistance
SO you put your bsb and prince in the DP's and run em 6x2 immune to fire and spells and laugh as you roll through his 20 PD... when he complains say "you are running 20pd+ army what are you whining about?"
the SM's charge forward and attract powerdice the bolt throwers kill hounds and greater daemons. The archers work on the horrors (until they die from magic
4 bolt throwers make greater daemons cringe and hide (except maybe GUO)
