I recently started a blog for my generic sci fi troopers - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/259101.page
but have since realised I'm working on too many various projects to dedicate a blog to just one... so whilst they are bubbling away (an update on the 'heavy' armour after the weekend) I've decided to group my various projects, ideas and sinlge minis into one log.
So, I'm currently mostly working on...
My ever ongoing project- a cast of 'post apocalypse' characters, gangs and mutants - set in a place where necromunda meets fallout - most people are armed with shotguns, pipe guns etc. but if the odd model pops up with a plasma pistol I'm ok with that!
A Ghoul warband taking inspiration from the LotR Far Harad range and the WFB Crypt Ghoul models - basically just ghouls with spears painted like tribals - these will hopefully work in both my post apo and Mordheim settings.
The above mentioned Generic Trooper army
My 40k Ork army - which although occasionally converted I enjoy as I'm using the models for exactly what they should be - 40k orks!
So here's a new character for post apocalypse and zombie survivor games - a hell's angels type shotgun wielder:
The highlighting's more blended and not as harsh as in the photo, and the 'dusty' legs shows up a bit more. I'm pleased with the conversion most of all - it's not easy making something useful out of a catachan!
Here's the WIP of my Ork warboss - he used to be bike mounted but I've decided to go for something entirely different and make an ork foot-slogging infantry force - it's going to be massive!
Hopefully the next update'll be more generic troopers and the ghoul warband forming nicely.
Thanks for reading

"Definition: 'Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope. Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, love is a matter of odds. Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and fewer would derive love from it. Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticle, and together, achieving a singular purpose, against statistically long odds." ~ HK-47 |

Well, it's been a while and my modelling schizophrenia means i've done hardly any work on my 'generic troops' as a whole new army has gripped me -
Diggamob inspired Scrappers:!:
Hailing from an imperial refuse worl these scavengers sort and send back reusable items, saving the rest to build their junk town-esque settlements and clothing. Think human wall-e meets madmax. I've given them all goggles as they live underground as the desert planets gets cold at night so when they're above ground it's all a bit bright!
Anyhooo, I've painted up a few test but there's 1000 points slowly being assembled and greenstuffed on my bench at the mo... more to come over next few weeks:
-as with all pics cause I'm crap at taking them the finish is 'smoother' in real life
First up is the leader - although they're not strictly speaking 'Diggas' I do like the jaw plate so he's got one:
then a trooper that I tested out the colour scheme on and gave 'sleeves' (rolled up) and a sentinel to go with them:
Anyhoo whilst I was working on 50 odd of them I used some leftovers to start up a new Necromunda gang - I've gone for a slightly rag tag look - painting will include checked clothing and near modern references (see Copplestone's scavenger scouts for ref). They're all basically done, few more pouches here and there and a bit of tidying up sprue lines and the like:
Leader with off world design autopistol and 'Biter' design Grenade launcher (and special item - the 'beer belly of succes')
Next Heavy w/ flamer and laspistol (and trusty goggles for when it really lights up!)
Next is the 2nd Heavy with a heavy bolter knicked off the scout sprue - not much else to this guy
Now for the cannon fodder - 3 gangers armed with lasguns (an uzi version and one that looks distinctly like a sniper rifle - mainly so later in a campaign if I can get one it can suddenly become one!). Mostly a bit of clothes modelling on these guys (including baggy hoodie) and adding texture to the top of the snipers mohican
Paint to come this week, also a Press Gang for use in necromunda w/ awesome industrial bases and my german army for secrets of the third reich! Fun fun fun!
c&c welcome as always

So as mentioned in the first post I've got a whole cast of post apocalypse characters and fighters - mainly because it's my absolute favourite genre.
Anyhoo - having also been working on some Secrets of the Third Reich models i've got over my fear of metal miniatures (I've avoided metal like the plague for years) and the Sarge APE model i'm working on reminded me of a special encounter from Fallout 2 (the best thing ever!) - 'The Woodsman' - an old fella in the woods with a rusty suit of power armour. Though the graphics didnt show it I always imagined it to be armour of his own design and construction.
Anyhoo, I had a thought for a new model - a fella in a powered suit, rusty and battered, big tatty beard - like a post spo survivalist, just him and his suit.
Now I dont have a West Wind APE spare but I do have a mega nob so I'm going to try it with that. Basically it's a headswap with the armour built up around it - I'm also going to 'plate up' any clothing areas so the body scale isnt such an issue - he's then going to be painted and weathered to complete the look - I saw a diorama once of a pair of guardsman coming across an abandoned rusty dreadnought and that's the style I want.
Actually, anyone got a link to that?
Thanks for previous comments all - I'll try get a pic up later of what I've done

Thanks, his right foot looks a bit wierd but once i've put sand on the base it'll appear flat I think....
The woodsman malarkey mentioned earlier's a it trickier than I thought! Automatically Appended Next Post: so last update for a few days as I'm off away tomorrow -
'The woodsman' is assembled and pinned -working on the head area - he's going to have a massive amount of hair and beard though (think Hagrid from Harry Potter) - he's also going to have a bigger exhaust, quite a few pouches, packs and pockets and maybe a spade on such - real survivalist type job.
Next is the leader of my Press Gang I mentioned earlier - I'm just so pleased with the basing and body positioning on this guy
and my gang leader as seen above - now in the basecoat-ish stage... thought i'd give a flavour of the colouring... the vest will eventually be a mucky white/ivory... I'm excited to get this gang painted and try a few clothing techniques for non-uniform combatants... we\ll see anyhoo
cheers

really? cheers - the flamers probably my least favourite but we'll see one he's painted... the nice thing is it's not too hard to make some replacement for the gangs.
'Mega Hagrid' now has the first layer of beard and hair - I think the extra equipment will make it look more like a power armoured survivalist and not a mega-nob-with-man-head-glued-on.
Hopefully.

So after being away for a few days i've had time to come back and finish off what was semi-painted and work abit more on some other stuff.
Her's the first member of my necromunda gang now finished - the layering is smoother than it looks in the pic - i think the stuff I do in post makes my painting look 'harsher' than it is... ho hum
I'm pleased with the colours I picked - i might go over him with a bit of weathering and out some John McClane-esque sweat patches on the vest but I'll get the other gang members up t scratch first.
Next up is a German Thug for my weird war collection - I'm pleased with him though the varnish has made hime a bit grey - i might try reglossing him then giving him aother light spray.
Anyhoo, welcome c&c as always - next update should be the Westwind APES then a squad of the scarp guard from a few posts back
Cheers

well - working on various stuff - some more wwwII stuff and also some westwind APE's as Brotherhood of Steel type troops for Post Appocalypse.
It's pay day tomorrow so my 15mm adventures begin... you'll be seeing a bit (a lot?) of that over the next few weeks.
Anyway - I got so sick of playing with ways of making metal more durable etc. that I caught up on some unfinished plastics from my cadian veteran army - basically cadians that look battle hardeed and like they've seen better days with lots of packs and equipment:
Most pleasing detail: not sure if you can see it but the sergent's auspex has a radar screen with blips painted on - it's a detail i'm happy with.
More soon

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |
