At the moment I'm toting a bog-standard Assault Cannon/Power Fist Dreadnaught, and to be honest his performance and impact in the game has never really left me feeling satisfied that it was value for the points cost.
Looking at the various loadouts available to dreadnaughts, I've been considering re-vamping it to weild a Heavy Plasma and Twin-Linked Autocannon, allowing it to fill to march forward with troops while laying down some impressive firepower - though it's a loadout I've not seen before on a Dreadnaught. Does anyone have any oppinions on this configuration? What do you guys rate as decent loadouts?

I am loathe to give up a ST 10 powerfist that swings at initiative. Its one of the few SM close combat weapons that can threaten multi-wound T5 opponents in close combat, especially if they have been reduced in numbers to where three attacks on the charge can finish a squad or, preferrably, he is supported by a dedicated assault unit to draw attacks away from him.
My preferred loadout for a dread is DCCW, Plasma Cannon, Heavy Flamer and Extra Armor. This build is relatively cheap (about the same as an autocannon/las-sponson Predator) and you don't have to worry about the overheat on the plasma cannon killing one of your models. You get a good anti-heavy infantry weapon with the plasma's S7, AP2 and you have the ability to drop a S5, AP4 no cover save template when the enemy gets close. Lots of potential auto-hits and good strength all around.

I like running 2 dreads, one multimelta DCCW, one Asscan/heavy flamer.
they run together, the multimelta pops transports, the Asscan/heavy flamer torches the dudes inside, and then they both assault for some fun times.
benefit of asscan over plasma cannon- the asscan can still pen and wreck AV14 if your multimelta fails you.

THE HORUS HERESY: Emprah: Hours, go reconquer the galaxy so there can be a new golden age. Horus: But I should be Emprah, bawwwwww! Emprah: Magnus, stop it with the sorcery. Magnus: But I know what's best, bawwwwww! Emprah: Horus, tell Russ to bring Magnus to me because I said so. Horus: Emprah wants you to kill Magnus because he said so. Russ: Fine. Emprah's always right. Plus Ole Red has already been denounced as a traitor and I never liked him anyway. Russ: You're about to die, cyclops! Magnus: O noes! Tzeentch, I choose you! Bawwwww! Russ: Ah well. Now to go kill Horus. Russ: Rowboat, how have you not been doing anything? Guilliman: . . . I've been writing a book. Russ: Sigh. Let's go. Guilliman: And I fought the Word Bearers! Horus: Oh shi--Spess Puppies a'comin? Abbadon: And the Ultramarines, sir. Horus: Who? Anyway, this looks bad. *enter Sanguinis* What are you doing here? Come to join me? Sanguinius: *throws self on Horus's power claws* Alas, I am undone! When you play Castlevania, remember me! *enter Emprah* Emprah: Horus! So my favorite son killed my favorite daughter! Horus: What about the Lion? Emprah: Never liked her. Horus: No one does. Now prepare to die! *mortally wounds Emprah*Emprah: Au contraire, you dick. *kills Horus* Dorn: Okay, now I just plug this into this and . . . okay, it works! Emprah? Hellooooo? Jonson: I did nothing! Guilliman: I did more nothing that you! Jonson: Nuh-uh. I was the most worthless! Guilliman: Have you read my book? Dorn: No one likes that book. Khan: C'mon guys. It's not that bad. Dorn: I guess not. Russ: You all suck. Ima go bring the Emprah back to life.

I use both the AC/HF/CCW and the MM/CCW dreads in my mech armies (sometimes just one or the other). They're really important as follow-ups or blockers for the transports, and really cheap for their capabilities.
I've been looking at and thinking about the rifleman dread (dual autocannons) for a couple of weeks though. I could really use the transport-busting power and at 125, it's one of the cheapest ways to get massed str7, twin-linked firepower into my build.
I'd lose the HtH capability, but lot of times my dreads wind up fighting in assault without their dccw anyway because it gets shot off. A str6 dread can still wounds T4 on 2s, so can tarpit and finish off weakened units effectively.

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...
