so found this when reading FA ( page 113 ) :

"They were lightly armoured Testudo personnel carriers, armed with a turret autocannon and capable of transporting a full squad..."
........"The mass reactive rounds exploded against the APC's armoured hideand gouged craters into its solid tyres."

An APC with tyres and a turret autocannon. Sounds like some nowadays APC's.

As much as i may consider such vehicles as possibe replacement for chimeras, i still cant find the meaning of "testudo".
Maybe renaming after the HH could help here...

And why does this transport not have the usual name?

Maybe the Chimera is an update version? Remember, power armour wasn't called that when it was first invented, only after several types had been invented. A chimera type II "The tesudo" maybe? Just as an example of course

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

Testudo; Latin for tortoise

Roman troops used it when assaulting enemy fortifications, due to the protection from arrows it provided.

Google it for a piccy!

Hope that helps!

It seems there are two types of Roman Testudo, siege-engine and troop formation.

and for the lazy, pics of both:

Wow. No wonder my latin teacher shouts at me for not paying attention :(

? Not sure whet the Roman formation has to do with a wheeled APC, other than in name!

Anyway.....if you want a good alternative model try out the M1127 Stryker.....counts as rules from the Chimera!

Good find. Didnt think of latin in an english book.
But turtle? The common mystic creature names seems better so i may have to find a change over time ( m30 to m41 ) and just use the template. Shall I assume 4 wheels or 6 ? Need to take a look at the APC's tomorrow.

So, thanks a lot.

OK. didnt find much 4 or 6 wheeled APC, so it seems to be 8 wheeled vehicles for 3 crew + 7/8 passengers.

- BTR 90 vs LAV III

Could work.
Which IG "recrutement" world may supply wheeled transports instead of chimeras? or additionally?
