My big mek with a kff is in my battlewagon with a deff rolla that is tank shocking an imperial guard squad with a las cannon. The las cannon is in the path of my battlewagon and is going for the good old death or glory, the question is: does the kustom force field protect vehicles against death or glory?

As a side note in the game we played we didn’t let the kff work for death or glory, it just didn’t seem right.

I would personally allow it, it is a shooting attack, you can claim the cover save!

Ok, lets just take the same situation and instead of a las cannon the guardsman had a melta bomb would the kff still work?

Against a shooting attack I would allow it as the KFF states that the vehicle is obscured giving it the cover save. In assaults, cover saves are never allowed so it would not come into play. So you would get one from the shooting attack, but the melta bomb, which is part of an assault phase attack, you would not get to use it.

Just my 2 cents, YMMV

This is a very interesting question, especially because, really, the attacks aren't shooting attacks or close combat attacks, but are Death or Glory attacks. Well, on first glance.

The rulebook says they get to take either one shot (read, shooting) or make on close combat attack.

I would say that the KFF would work as normal against shooting DoG attacks, but not against close combat DoG attacks, on the basis that the rulebook says the unit makes an attack, and only specifies that it hits automatically. Since the rest of the rules for shooting are in the shooting section, we would follow those, including the rules for cover saves. Obviously this would only come into play in two situations: SMF and a KFF.

I'm a little curious on this, because my interpretation of the rules seems to differ from the accepted ruling. Under Death or Glory in the rulebook, it says, "Whatever form the attack takes, the attack hits automatically, so resolve the hit against the vehicles front armor (using front armor even if the model uses a close combat attack), immediately and apply any damage results."

To me, that sounds like the cover save would not be allowed, since the attack hits automatically.

Why? Why does hitting automatically magically deny cover? Please, provide rules quotes.

Well, I'm curious as to why hitting automatically can translate to not actually hitting the target.

So why roll to wound or roll to penetrate ever? Why Ever take any sort of saves?

It's a cover save, made by a force field. The rules say I can take a 4+ cover save. Please provide rules as to why you think I could not take this save against a Shooting DoG attack. If you do not want to provide rules or any sort of proof for your argument, kindly stop posting.

The reason for my confusion is that I misunderstood the wording of a cover save. I had a friend explain it to me and I understand now.

You on the other hand, are a huge **** ****. Are you always this rude to people who ask questions?

No, I am not rude at all. If you perceived rudeness in me Kindly asking you to back up your arguments, you need to get your life in order.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

@Krall: Please don't take GWAR's responses personally. He's just one of those people who happens to be right 99.99999999999% of the time (and he don't take no S* from fools). If he is wrong, he's big enough to say so.

as regards your query, i'm glad to see someone taking the stance that a DaG attack should not merit a cover save. After all, if you're close enough to blast a melta gun into the drivers window, i think cover saves are pretty much out of the question at that point.

Still, RAW, the vehicle gets a cover save. I don't like it. It makes no sense. But, it happens :(

Hahahaha

Anyways, I would definitely give them the save, as I would have to be crazy enough to do it in the first place anyways.

Well thats pretty far from true

But gwar does have a point. If your confused about something fine, thats no big deal, just stating you misunderstood , thats why you thought it didnt count, would of been fine. All he was wanting was rules as to why you thought so. Getting upset and swearing isnt going to make things magically happen, like not taking the save lol

In Krall's defense, Gwar is a jerk, and being right most of the time doesn't excuse you from being a jerk.

And Gwar, if you truly believe that your language wasn't rude, well... then that explains why you spend your time on forums instead of talking to people in person.

That being said, I agree that giving a cover save to a thing that's right in front of you doesn't make any sense, but there are lots of rules that make sense, so what can you do? Just use the rules as written.
