What happens if a model with BS5 fires a rapid fire plasma weapon and rolls a 2 to hit? Does the shot hit the target, as a 2 on BS5 means a hit, or does the firer suffer from Gets Hot!, as rapid fire overheat on 1 and 2?

What do you think happens?

Thanks,

Valkyrie

That was 4th edition.

In 5th, it only Gets Hot! on a 1.

I dont think it overheats at 2.

And if the model may reroll because of his high WS, it may also reroll overheat.

Still = overheat

Target locked,ready to fire

That 5th eddition change really helped badrukk from killing himself EVERY game just from firing his gun. Grots helped some, but for a while when orks were waiting for 5th edition Flashgitz weren't just bad, they were unusable.

They're still unusable...

Well, I guess you can put them onto the table and move them around, if you want, but they're sure not going to win any fights for you.

They've got exactly the stats of Nobs with 'eavy armor, at exactly the same cost-plus their flashguns. Cost isn't their problem.

The problem is the things you can't buy them. Like any kind of close combat upgrade. Or a dedicated transport.

5th ed,
no longer an issue.

But to answer the question,
bot happen.

The thing gets hot and a hit is scored,
these are not mutually exclusive.

Same thing can happen now if a higher BS shoots something with BS10 for example. Roll a one it gets hot, but can re-roll the hit (which is then 2+).

The first part is about the gun getting hot,
the second roll I would say (as this is not master crafting) only effects the hit roll

I would imagine that the plasmagun fires, but then explodes in your face anyway.

Only a 1 overheats, and only a 1 misses.

If you re-roll a die (whether due to twin-linking, mastercrafting, high BS, or whatever) the old roll no longer applies. So if you re-roll your way out of a 1 with a plasma weapon, there is no overheat.

Actually, since Gets Hot happen when the "result" of the roll is 1, if you reroll, it's the reroll that is a "result", the previous roll is void, no matter why you're rerolling.

...and it even states so in the Gets Hot! rules, last paragraph.

It was implicit in the last ruelbook, they seem to have decided it bears repeating...
