Ok I've been messing around with some of the SW units and the Iron Priest is giving me some trouble.
Iron Priest can take a thunder wolf ... problems...
A) Clearly you are not meant to have thunder wolves with units other then wolves. This leaves a question over the thralls.
(RAW you can)
B) Thralls and Cyber wolves are never given a unit type (i.e. infantry, beast/calvalry, bike), Its hinted at being infantry. For the wolves especially it seems odd they wouldn't be able to keep up with Priest on a thunder wolf. (When an iron priest takes a bike/wolf can Cyber wolves keep up?)
(RAW the units always Infantry unless he's on his own)
C)Can IC on a thunder wolves join this unit?
(RAW no since they are nether a Thunder Wolf Cavalry or a Fenrisian Wolf Pack)
D)If an Iron Priest takes 3 Thralls (with servo arms) and saga of the iron Wolf; can he ever fail to fix a vehicle? (needs to roll 5 or more with +4 to the result)
Many thanks, Tri

1) Yes, you can - its just not as effective as the Iron Priest isnt an IC so cant join units.
2) Looks like they forgot about Servitors needing a unit type.
4) Doesn't look like he could ever fail!

I can only answer D. I believe that a roll of 1 is always a failure, saw it somewhere in the BGB. Just as with JOWW a monstrous creature subtracts one from it's roll but no matter what it's I value a roll of 6 is always a failure. Same with gift of chaos in that a 6 is always a chaos spawn. Just going by precedence I'd say that he can.

That is for characteristics tests. . . and 1 always succeeds in that case.

Thought of that and could only find reference in "Characteristic Tests" (page 8); "Rolling to hit" (page 17); "Maximum Save" (page 24). None of which is applicable, It may have been a rule in the last rule book that was left out.

Cyberwolves are beasts, as stated in the fenrisian Wolves Unit Entry. Thralls I would assume are Infantry. C)Can IC on a thunder wolves join this unit? (RAW no since they are nether a Thunder Wolf Cavalry or a Fenrisian Wolf Pack)

Interesting, by RAW, two ICs on Thunderwolf Mounts cannot join up to form a unit composed entirely of ICs as they can only attach to thunderwolf cavalry and fenrisian wolf units.
I think with regard to the Iron Priest and his retinue, and I may be wrong, but given it provides all the rules needed to field the cyberwolves within the unit entry and specifies the unit type as infantry, I think all models in the unit including the cyberwolves are infantry. (because he is not buying the cyberwolves as wargear but as an additional model in the unit.).
I wouldn't try to push this in a game really because it seems silly and I would let the Iron Priest move as a beast/cavalry if he was accompanied by cyberwolves and mounted on a fenrisian wolf, but the RAW to me seems to indicate all members of the unit are considered infantry, including the cyberwolves.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Yes, you are right, the Iron Priest is indeed not an IC. Also I fail to see how one can think the cyberwolves are infantry.

I must still be missing something because I don't see how the Iron Priest not being an IC is relevant to this discussion? I may have used the term retinue incorrectly to refer to the units that can accompany him, but I don't see that it changes matters at all here? Also, I don't think cyberwolves are infantry, but I do think the cyberwolves added to an iron priest's unit aren't wargear, they are models whose profiles are listed under the unit entry and since the whole unit entry is described as being infantry I think the RAW stupidly makes them infantry. I would never enforce that though.

Well so far i've had no problem with using them as beasts/cavalry. I really like the Iron priest not being an IC you can't pick him out in CC. 155pts 3-4 thunder hammer hits at St10 (+1 powerfist at str8), 4 cyber wolves and every one Toughness 5.
But I lost the Iron priest and had to explain that they are part of the unit not wargear, so he was still locked in combat with 3 hungry wolves.

Ya know, I just noticed something. I have a horrible feeling that Cyberwolves in a Iron Priest unit are Infantry, not Beasts. It lists the Unit type as Infantry on page 87, and does not suggest that the Wolves are Beasts, unlike the Thunderwolf Mount entry, which is clear that he DOES become Cavalry. Thus, I have to conclude that the Cyberwolves in an Iron Priest unit are in fact, RaW, infantry, so a Iron Priest on Thunderwolf with 4 Wolves still can only assault 6" and is no longer Fleet. :( Time for me to add moar rules changes to t3h FAQ And yes, I am stoopidz for not seeing it before Thanks Drunkspleen

Well page 62 make clear that they're beast if take by a character .... trouble is if you follow that reading they vanish once the Iron priest dies which i don't think is right ether ... unless there's been a mistake in his profile and he should get 2 wounds (OK I just miss the old Iron priests with 2 wounds)

Yeah, but the Cyberwolves for an Iron Priest do not say they use that rule :(
And I miss the 2 Wounds too, however since he is no longer an IC, can take 4 wolves and has a Tasty Thunder Hammer, he should last a lot longer
