Battle Creek, MI

At my LFGS we are doing a planetary empires campaign, actually on week 4, but I decided instead of making a battle report I'd tell the story of the match. This is actually just the deployment phase, I am working on the rest of the match.

This match was Ultramarines vs. Renegade Chaos Guard (codex from forgeworlds Siege of Vrak part three) I am the Ultramarines and I was attacking the Chaos power generator tile.

Mission was capture and hold, Deployment was Spearhead

Battle of Titan Prime
Week 4

Sergeant Marcus guided his two Land speeder teams through the wooded terrain of Titan Prime. He looked around him at the four new recruits assigned to him and across to the other speeder full of scouts. Sergeant Videus looked at him from his Storm and gave him the thumbs up sign and smiled. Videus was recently promoted to Sergeant for his braveries in the last battle on Titan Prime or was it because his Sergeant was killed in action. Videus and his battle brothers took out a battle tank routed a squad of renegade guard and a command squad. It was an amazing feat, but they were all still green barely adjusted to their genetically modified bodies. They were well trained by the watchful eye of Sergeant Telion but Marcus could sense they were nervous. His team was the advance scouts for the main attack force. The primary target was the Power generator currently in control by the traitorous renegade guard. They had once served the Emperor but now have turned their eyes from him and embraced the powers of chaos. Marcus’s rage boiled inside him for their defiance. He murmured to himself. “Hate, the Emperor's greatest gift to mankind. This is the source of our wrath and the steel behind our will. Treason, the Unpardonable Sin. This is what we hate, above all else.” He refocused his thoughts back to the task at hand.
Deftly skimming a few meters off the ground moving at a dizzy speed through the terrain Marcus’s highly acute vision spotted an aged defense bastion in the distant. He concentrated and his genetically enhanced eyes to magnified his vision. He touched his ear whispered into his vox.
“Enemy contacts ahead”
Without an order both speeders slowed and dropped into the dense woods. Marcus jumped from the speeder and crept up to the edge of the clearing. His squad fell in behind him silently. Ahead two bastions stood out in an open clearing. Each Bastion bore the marks of chaos. One was empty the other had a squad of Traitor Marines visible on the roof.
“Plague Marines.” cursed Marcus. A chaos rhino was deployed beside the bastion, the sign of the Nurgle emblazoned on the side hatch. Sneering, the sergeant switched channels on his vox.
“My Lord, we have enemy contacts ahead of our position, please advise”

Inside the land raider Veteran Sergeant Caius’s tactical squad rode stern faced and stoic. Over the Vox channel Caius heard the scouts report. He turned to look at his “Acting” commander. Librarian Decius was kneeling in front of the Land Raiders’ shine to the Emperor, his lips moving silently in prayer. Caius was glaring at the Librarian and waited another moment for his “Acting” Commander to respond. Librarians walked on the edge of the warp, constantly tested between the Emperors divine light and the shadows of Chaos. Caius has seen the powers of chaos twist men into monsters and daemons. Caius would never say it out loud but did not trust Decius.
“My Lord… your orders?” Caius said impatiently. Librarian Decius did not move, lips still moving in prayer. Librarian Decuis closed his eyes tightly stretching out with his mind. Caius’s eyes narrowed at his “Acting” commander. Then tapped his vox bead
“Sergeant Marcus, find us a route around the outpost and continue to primary objective.”
“The enemy approaches. Sergeant Marcus, Hold current position we are in route.” Librarian Decuis continued his praying. Caius gritted his teeth until he heard the vox chime again it was Sergeant Marcus.
“More enemy armor contacts approaching from the north-east bearing two-three-five, looks like they knew we were coming, they are trying to outflank us”

The Ultramarine battle force assigned to take the Power generator consisted of Caius’s Tactical squad in a Godhammer pattern Land Raider along with three rhinos. Two of the Rhinos transported tactical squads. One carried Sergeant Furius and his highly decorated Devastators. All the transports accelerated to out flank the Renegade outpost.
Sergeant Marcus watched in the cover of the trees the Renegade guard moving into position, he was close but he didn’t think they had spotted his teams yet. He heard the rest of the battle force coming in from the south-west. The Land Raider and two of the tactical Rhinos peeled off and got in position behind him to the west. To the south-west he had seen Sergeant Furius’s Devastators climbing up on a hill to get a better line of sight. The sounds of armor treads could be heard from the north-east grew louder. The trees at the other end of the clearing cracked and splintered as the Renegades Armour column deployed behind the bastion. Marcus relayed intel across the battle force vox channel.
“Three heavy support units, Battle tank, Executioner, and Vanquisher. Two more Chaos Rhinos. Two Chimeras and a… ah… what the warp is that!” Marcus watched as bulbous, bloated, insect-like form of a Blight Drone buzzed in behind the bastion. Noxious flumes of green and yellow billowed from it. Marcus couldn’t tell if it was a vehicle or a mutant, the taste of bile crept up into the back of his throat.
“Sergeant Marcus! If you can’t give us good intelligence you will be replaced!” shouted Veteran Sergeant Caius thru the vox.
“Sorry sir. A Chaos skimmer” corrected Marcus. With a hand signal Marcus ordered his squad back into the Land Speeder. He recited the Litanies of Protection as he climbed aboard. That didn’t inspire his fresh squad of assault scouts.
“Lock and Load.” commanded Marcus as he did a quick check of his wargear.
