Hey everyone.

Total noob, just picked up these guys as the start of my Ultramarine force. The Tac squads are the Blackreach/Macragge sets squads, so I had little choice in their loadouts, as are the Termies and the one Dread. Here's the full list:

HQ
Space Marine Captain
+Power Sword

Space Marine Chaplain
+Terminator Armor w/ Storm Bolter

Elite
Dreadnought

Dreadnought
+Assault Cannon

Terminator Squad

Troops
Tactical Squad
+5 Marines, Flamer, ML

Tactical Squad
+5 Marines, Flamer, ML

Fast Attack
Assault Squad
+Melta Bombs, Power Weapon, Plasma Pistol

I realize I have zero Heavy units. My goal is a total force of about 2000 points, scale-able back to 1000 or 1500. I am looking for a well rounded, fairly mobile force. What do I need to get this going without scrapping too terribly many of the above models?

Just expand on what you have. You can do this by adding Rhinos to your Tactical Squads, filling out your Assault Squad, and beefing up your Termies. Y

ou could go Drop Pod Assault and throw everything in a Pod or Deep Strike. At this point it looks like you've got a solid base to build from.

First you need another troop squad maybe a cheap one like 5 scouts with camo cloaks and snipers. then maybe a land raider or a few razorbacks to make you army more mobile.
Raider: termis Razorback: a combat sqauded Tact.
so 250 for land raider w/MM + 2 Razorbacks w/storm bolter and TL-HB + scouts
That would put you at 1600 points about.

If you walk a mile in another mans shoes you will be a mile away from him and you will have his shoes.

-2-3 AC/HB Predators, cheap as chips.

-Rhinos on tactical squads. Maybe another tac squad.

-Option of a land raider (but very expensive), and they don't do great as one ofs.

-Maybe put a jump pack on the Captain to let him join your assault marines. Consider converting him a relic blade.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

Okay, Predator or 2 may go a long way for not a lot of points. I am considering filling in some TH/SS Termies to go with my chaplain, and a Land Raider of some sort to carry them, maybe. Other option is a teleport homer with the Scout Squad. Which is better for the points?

As for the Tacs, is the drop pod or the Rhino better? I know the drop pod can't move, but being able to deep strike more or less safely is tempting, even if they can't pack up and move away afterwords.

Also, is Telion really worth the points? And can I buy the Camo cloaks with him in the squad, even though he isn't allowed any upgrades? If so, do I need to buy 4 cloaks for the remaining scouts, or 5 counting him?

Okay, revised list, going for about 2000 points.

HQ
Space Marine Captain (+Power Sword)
Space Marine Chaplain (+Terminator Armor w/ Storm Bolter)

Elite
Dreadnought (Drop Pod) +35
Dreadnought (+Assault Cannon) (Drop Pod)
9 Man Terminator Assault Squad

Troops
10 Man Tactical Squad (+5 Marines, Flamer, ML, TeleHomer, Rhino)
10 Man Tactical Squad (+5 Marines, Flamer, ML, Rhino)
10 Man Tactical Squad (+5 Marines, Flamer, ML, Rhino)
10 Man Tactical Squad (+5 Marines, Flamer, ML, Rhino)

Fast Attack
10 Man Assault Squad (+Melta Bombs, Power Weapon (Sgt), Plasma Pistol)
10 Man Assault Squad (+Melta Bombs, Power Fist (Sgt), Flamer)
10 Man Assault Squad (+Melta Bombs, Power Fist (Sgt), Flamer)

This equals out to 1985. Since this isn't Back to the Future, what should I do with the remaining 15 points?

I like the reference, but you are very much lacking in the anti-tank department.

2x Landspeeder with MM/HF will solve that problem for 140 points (Drop a Captain).

Is the multi-melta on the dread, along with all those MLs not enough?

Spycer have you considered going BA instead? you seem to want to use alot of assault squads, and BA are much better at spamming those.

I really like the assault squads, they are my fav unit in the whole game. But the above list was just a thought at trying to fill the point total with things I liked, not really that I have to have them.

I only have one Assault Squad of 5 men so far, but I may look in to changing to BAs if it lets me use the same assault troops more effectively.

Yep BA are the assault marine specialists, and their codex is free at GW's site. Have a look and maybe that may be more suited to your style.

You wouldn't happen to point out to me where on their site I can find it? I looked, but did not see.

I don't play SM, but I'm just curious; why do you have both flamers and missiles on your tac squads? Seems that if you're using one, you give up the other. . . with a flamer you want to move forward and use it before assaulting, but with a missile launcher you want to hang back and snipe. I'd take one or the other, not both. Maybe swap out the flamer for a plasma gun?

He might be intending to seperate them into combat squads.

Missile launchers and flamers are both free in the new Marine book. There's no reason not to take them.

They are both free, and usually intended to combat squad, so you both are right.

And thanks for the link!
