Hi All,

I bought one of those "OMG CUSTOM WARHAMMER 40k" vehicles you see from time to time, thinking "wow, the colors are ugly, but this could save me some hassle and money getting the real thing. There was a picture, but it was small and admittedly blurry. I finally got my "winnings" a week and a half later, mailed in a shoebox. Here are some pictures of what I'm up against.

In case you're wondering, the part that made in an "Exorcist" was the fact that it had Valkyrie missile pods attached on the side doors sticking awkwardly out on either side. I ripped them off already. So clearly I had my work cut out for me. I mention all of the above not to gripe against the auction or the auctioneer, but merely to show you, my dear reader, that this project started out on an ill wind. So I decided I'd have to completely break it down and start over from scratch if I was to make anything of this. I noticed it was superglued together, so based on tips I read from another post, I decided to stick it in the freezer to see if I could break the glue joints. This was a resounding success, and I'll have to try it again in the future. My next task was stripping the hilariously thick paint off of the hull. I used rubbing alcohol and again, with considerable success, was able to scrape about 99% of the paint off. I plan on getting a toothpick and scraping the rest off later. I glued it back together correctly with no more cracks between the treads. I also used a different top hatch part from another Rhino I got (Incinerator tank maybe?) along with a Sisters turret piece that I GSed a plug into. My plan is to mount the valk missile pods atop that and come up with a slightly less over-the-top Exorcist than the actual kit that GW makes.

I began to look at finer detail parts on it, and I saw that there was still stuff on the sides that were glued on much too solidly to just come off from the freezer. I pulled out my trusty hobby knife and started picking at one of the offending holy symbols crookedly attached to the Rhino's door. Wouldn't budge. I started going at it from another angle. I got some solid purchase upon the joint, and started prying. Almost.. a little more... there it goes, just a tiny bit.. Wait.

Ow. Ow ow ow.

Six hours later and a visit to the friendly people at the St. Louis Christian Northeast Hospital, I was back home. My t(rusty) hobby knife had found it's way from the holy icon into the side of my hand, and I found myself with 6 stitches and a prescription for antibiotics. I can say in spite of all this, this is a project I'm going to see through to the end if it KILLS me.

So back to the topic of the post. I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on how I should build the turret up to attach the missile pods. I'm not much of a GS artist, but I'm much better with straight mechanical things than I am with "human" elements such as cloth and the like.

Try the piece that razorback weapons are attached to. If you have a spare one of those around. Make it just like a razorback turret.

Also, do you play EQ2? Just the 'what a horrible night to have a curse' is the warning that goes out each nightfall in Mistmoore.

No, but I think they do it as homage to Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest. It was the unavoidable message that halted the game for about 10-15 seconds out of the blue every time nightfall hit.

I like that. My only concern is that it might look too much like a Razorback, well, and that I don't have any of those laying around. I might have to buy one. I could use another Rhino anyway. Something else I considered was the turret that comes with the planetary defence stuff. The one with the two twinlinked autocannons on it, but I'm not sure if that would be too tall for the missile pods. It only came with two pods, and I'm actually planning on using them with my valks, otherwise I'd just slap two more on it and run it like that.

This has "terrain project" written all over it. I turned my similarly damaged rhino into a looted wagon for my Orks.

You are a trooper! Good luck wherever this project takes you - even if it takes you to the emergency room.

I propose:
a week in Super Clean. faster and easier than rubbing alcohol, and it devours cyanoacrylate. Score and file all the glue joins, and use a good plastic glue to reassemble.

the Valk rocket pods should do just fine, if you build a new frame to mount it on the turret.

Looks like some holy water would take care of that, might spin the sister driving the rhino's head around, but that's a small price to pay.
Sorry about the stitches, take revenge on that tank and make it amazing! Can't wait to see the final product!

Stick some firecrackers in the bastard and make terrain the "legit" way =)

I think you want to let it bathe in either Simple Green or Castrol Super Clean. Neither will damage the plastic, but they should both eat the glue and weaken the paint to the point where a toothbrush and warm running water will get it off.

As for the knife wound...I feel your pain, I once buried an Xacto about 2/3rds of an inch into the top of my thumb trying to cut something.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Next time, try superglue on that bad boy before it bleeds too badly. It's quite a handy, readily available wound sealing technique for a modeler. Can't tell you the number of times I've sliced myself open and glued myself back together. Quite an Orky solution, now that I think of it.

The glue is probably toxic... but I haven't died from it yet!

Good luck with the rest of your Exorcist, I hear it's a beast to put together even if you buy it new...

Okay, so a friend and I sat around yesterday night working on modeling and terrain. I decided to start working on the turret for the exorcist. Liking the Forge World exorcist over the GW one, I wanted to stick with the valk rocket pods as the missile launchers. I could not find anything to attach the pods to the turret, so I decided that it might be easiest to greenstuff a support for them. Here is what I came up with as a test. Let me know what you think.

That's a cadian voxcaster and the cables off of a servoskull attached on the back of the pods.

The turret looks nice!

I sympathize about the hand, made a boo boo working with a chisel earlier this year. It wasnt 'stitch-worthy', but painful for sure.

Dont let this beast beat you. Its tasted you blood and will only drag you down and devour your soul if you let it win.

The hand looks painful- I slit one of my fingers open last week while I was trimming mold lines (Tyranid Warriors want my blood already).

Mind, the hand doesn't look as painful as the paintjob on that model was. Good luck going against this

Excellent work on it, really looks like it does what it's meant to. Some reason I despise the organ type thing GW uses and prefer the FW one as well.

I agree with the organ hate. Im planning to turn the one I have lying around into....

An organ! For my CoD cathedral!

Liking the turret- my only criticism is its' a little high, try lowering it slightly.

Good luck
