I was playing a game, and the guy i was playing claimed that since his skimmer's gun (a falcon tank with a bright lance or something) could see over the wall of cover i was behind, i wouldn't get a cover save or anything (but if it was a ground troop i would have). I declared shenanigans on it , and said that it depended on the sight of the driver or the hull or something (making up stuff).

Could someone please clarify on this? Thanks

p.s. If it makes a difference, it was basically a fence that was counted as a cover saver thingamajig

Cover saves are really very simple: If the target is partially (or 50% in the case of vehicles or Monstrous Creatures) obscured, it gets a cover save.

Vehicles draw LOS from the weapon mount, not from the driver.

All vehicle weapons draw LoS from the weapon mounting, not the "Driver".

If the gun mount can see 100% of your model, then that model is not in cover. Though remember, if you look from the gun mount and can't see some of the model, it gets a cover save (though maybe a 5+ instead of a 4+)

I believe on vehics and MC the rule states 50%, and doesn't use the word "partially". Is that correct? Of course if there was disagreement you could still use the one number worse cover save rule.

Right. A vehicle or monstrous creature must have 50% or more of its body or targeted armor facing (respectively) covered, in order to claim a cover save.
