Heya, working on my space marine (assault on black reach + additions) and really wanna go for a army that I can justify fighting anyone and leave my future opportunities to modify them to match my mood. Here is my first attempt at the background of my Grey Snakes (pictures can be posted if wanted)

History:
The Steel Cobras were declared Excommunicatus for their sins, in particular they where branded heretics by the inquisition because they worshiped the Emperor as a animal totem. Though now renegades in the eyes of the imperium they still held themselves as loyal servants to the Emperor, no matter how twisted their worship of him was. Yet in this group some of the Marines thought that waiting in the bunkers on Tukaroe VII , only to accept their eventual fate and die was a waste for true servants of the Emperor.

Veteran Sergeant Hazax and several of his battle brothers came to this understanding and did not see it as a fitting end. Hazax knew that leaving with the 7th, 8th and part of the 10th companies of his beloved Steel Cobras would only invite internal strife to break out, he struck a deal with the Chapter Master that they would serve as the Steel Cobras right hand, expand their territory and do what true servants of the Emperor should do, protect the lands of men and destroy their enemies, even if the imperium counts among them.
The newly formed Grey Snakes struck out from their chapter to set up a series of outposts, secret locations were they may stockpile resources out of the eyes of the imperium to allow their operations in the area. Furthermore the Snakes have recently made pushes to increase the numbers of their newly formed chapter, by kidnapping persons with potential as a future Grey Snake and wiping their minds clean using a synthetic toxin from the very snakes they revered back on Tukaroe VII.

As far as combat doctrine goes, the Snakes have taken to guerilla warfare, setting up ambushes and taking what they can from the aftermath. If any major weakness can be seen in the chapters operations it is the lack of vehicles and currently high amount of untested battle brothers and scouts.
