Would one of these be large enough to "counts-as" a soulgrinder?

Nope, not much bigger than a dreadnaught.
The brass scorpion makes a good grinder/defiler stand in.

what are you on?
the scorpion is massive beyond any grinder
i would say the slaughter would work quit nicely for one

I know that it's big but when it comes to 'counts as' you're opponent will be more likely to accept it if it is bigger and more expensive.

Yeeeeeeeaaaaa..... Because I know EVERYONE wants to have a LARGER more EXPENSIVE version of a cheaper weaker model so it can get blown away faster and easier. But HEY! At least itll look good for the turn its on the table.

I don't want their cheaper, weaker, smaller stand in model sneaking out from behind a low wall to destroy my legal, no need for counts as, codex recommended models either.
If you don't want tfg to complain about your 'counts as' models get them bigger or the same size as the original.

I hardly think it's being TFG if you dont accept what is obviously a huge advantage to your opponent. If someone used the model in that first pic, I would let them on the condition that they never get cover saves and you cant hide behind anything (meaning even if its behind a wall, everything can see it). It's not my fault they dont use the proper models, why should I take the fall for it?

Have you guys ever played against a soul grinder? The pivot-for-range bull they can pull with their ridiculous leg span is a much bigger pain in the ass than a small target profile would be and frankly, the blood slaughterer looks a million times better. So long as my opponent wasn't a jerk about it I'd be totally happy to let him run a figure as gorgeous as that.

You could always just play it that a smaller model like that needs 75% coverage for a cover save.

Seems kind of hippocritical... you dont mind them using a soulgrinder cause its bigger and more expensive (benefit to you) but you dont want a smaller and cheaper model (cause its a benefit to them) Thats just my opinion, unless Im missreading something...

On subject: I wouldnt mind personally as I dont think most people will unless its a tournament... go for it man, do what will make you habby in your hobby, if someone seriously wont let you use it in a friendly game... well then I dont think its a "friendly" game at all... Just my thoughts

Thats not hypocritical at all. It would be hypocritical if Alex denied his opponent from taking non-standard sized units but wanted to take them for himself at the same time. Youre supposed to use the standard models, or something of equivalent size. It can easily be considered cheating if you take a smaller model for a unit that has an obvious disadvantage because of its size.

They are the ones messing with the system. They should be at a disadvantage, not me!

Whats hard to understand about someone using a model that is smaller than the normal default model? This should be pretty obvious, epsecially when you start looking at the way we do LOS rules now in 5th Edition.

Smaller model means it gets better cover saves as it now can hide behind smaller cover more effectively. (ie. not intended by the default model, which would be more inclined to someone trying to cheat the system.) A default model's size isn't a benefit, its the size its meant and intended to be for the game mechanics, at "counts-as" model not being the same size isn't the intended use for the model its counting as.

Basically, what I'm saying is, the default model isn't an advantage to the opponent, that's the intended size and rules matching for the model, a smaller size is a complete benefit to the using player then to his opponent.

i use nurglings as lesser demons in my chaos marine army & no-one complains.
i wouldn't mind if someone used a slaughter as a soulgrinder or defiler against me but then i play for the fun not the win.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

The way i play the soulgrinder though, means that i never get cover saves, as i use it as an assault unit not a shooting platform and therefore just deepstrike it right in front of the enemy.
@Alex Kolodotschko Thanks for the comparison pic iit's helped alot.
Anyway the deed is done now, as i've just ordered it (don't know when it'll arrive though, bloody postal strike)

Repositioning troops is fine. As long as there is an unmodified model in the squad or to hand to check los with if necessary.
