I been running Plasma Vets and they overheat and die an aweful lot. I was thinking of running a 3 Plasma Command Squad with a Medic instead of Plasma Vets. FNP helps to not die from overheats and they can twin link versus monsterous creatures or if they have to shoot a transport.
The 4 Meltas command squad is the best for tank killing with 4 Meltas and the bring it down order if you Chimera was destroyed or you hop out because you really need something dead. This is what I been running and its been pretty good for tank hunting and get back in the fighting pinned or running vets from blown up chimeras. Only time this melta ccs is hamstrung is when they have to baby sit a bob giving them bring it down and meltas are such short range.
What do you run in your CCS and how's it work for you?

I actually run half my infantry on foot (so I can cluster them around my tanks to give them hull down), so I use the CCS with a standard to anchor them and some long-range weapons.
IMO, it's not too great to have a CCS in an all-mech list. I run the Primaris Psyker instead, so that I can attach him to a Vet squad for a bit more firepower and save 55 points on the chimera to get a heavier vehicle.
Overheat is a problem you won't really be able to get around, so for AP2 I suggest you simply get an LRBT or Executioner with plasma sponsons.

For my own Guard Army, the CCS with 4 meltas has proven very useful since all the mech armies showed up in 5th.
The version with 3plasmas + medic costs 45 points more, and you want to drive the squad around in a chimera anyway, so the range of plasma + melter is 12" for both, you only get the 24" shot plasma off when your chimera doesn't move, which is less likely to happen.
IMHO take Meltas for CCS and get an LR Executioner with sponsons. This gives you 5 plasmacannon shots, which do the job without risk of overheat, and with 5 small pieplates.

I take mine straight with no upgrades, but thats just me. If overheat has become a problem for you then give them the medic, and importantly give them carapace armor. The bonus to the save plus feel no pain should be enough to straighten out most of those problems.

But why no upgrades ? I would at least recommend giving them Grenade Launchers. They're dirt cheap and add decent punch to this CCS

Thanks for the replies.
Will stick to the 4 Melta CCS for now can't seem to make the extra 45 points for my 1850 list.
I do run the executioner as well but I was thinking I needed Plasma vets with nids coming out in Jan and the Thunder Wolves that just came out. But people are telling me Thunderwolves die to str 8 so meltas might still be better.

I take mine straight because those points can be spent on the ordinary guardsmen which has the benefits of being a troop choice and can maximize the wounds around that weapon. Why take a melta with three ablative wounds, when I can take one with nine, and have more gun. I have put a power sword on my guy, but it never does anything, so I stay away from it. A commanders job is to give orders to make the troops better, not do the job for them.

4 Meltas in a Chimera is hard to argue with for anti-tank capability.
In casual and semi-competitive games I tend to run two blob squads, two PCS with 4 meltas/Chimera, CCS with 4 meltas/chimera as a core. Send the two PCS out as the first wave speedbump. Vehicles that fight past those still have the CCS to deal with.
Also fun to isolate some heroic badassed MEQ character and slag him with 4 melta shots.

4 meltas is probably better, in additon to what people have said already: melta units have to get out of their ride for maximum effect, close to enemy lines. They have a tendency to die immediately afterwards! So it's a job better given to a non-scoring unit. In all-mechanised guard lists, perversely, a CCS is actually less of a survival priority than a veteran squad.
