Hey guys,
First up is a very well known Chaos HQ unit - Kharn the Betrayer.
Whilst waiting for my Nurgle Daemon prince to come (Enigma miniature that I'm hoping to convert) I thought i would order a model to be getting on with.
I found Kharn on ebay for £4 so i thought id snap it up. The only thing wrong with it was that the chain on his arm had snapped where it meets the mace/flail ball on his hip. Nothing bad, a little glue fixed it in place so its all good.
I thought about gluing it all together and then paint it fully assembled but as its a very cramped model i glued his pistol arm on instead of everything.
For the backpack and head i glued cocktail stick to the parts you wouldn't see. It will make it easier to paint them and i wont rub of the primer as i have something to hold on to.
I trimmed the tag off of him because i will be doing a 40/50mm scenic base. So for now i glued him on a regular round base so its easier to paint. I'm thinking of doing a Temple floor as the base. I've never made a base so it probably won't go the way i want it too but i will be looking up tutorials on base making which will hopefully make it easier.
A little more cleaning of mold lines on the main body and im ready for spraying.
Sorry there's nothing that interesting at the moment, hopefully i will have some minor basecoats done tonight which i will put up.
Any ideas on a Temple floor base would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have a solid plan. GS will be your friend.
Spread some out and making it flat as possible. Fingerprints bad...
Then carve some designs in such as...
Or you can make it brick like Egyptian type of thing...
If ya go for the latter I would suggest actually making each brick individually so you can control the height of some bricks. This would give it a rougher feel IMO and show the ware and tear of time. Depends on the age of the ruins...

"Definition: 'Love' is making a shot to the knees of a target 120 kilometers away using an Aratech sniper rifle with a tri-light scope. Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, love is a matter of odds. Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and fewer would derive love from it. Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticle, and together, achieving a singular purpose, against statistically long odds." ~ HK-47 |

Quick Update.
Nothing major - base coat has started to be applied for the armour. I need to work quicker because so far i've put on 2 colours and it took 1 hour each to do...crazy right?
I base coated mech. red with a splash of black. Very similiar to red gore i guess although maybe a little darker. I then used that mix with mech. red to create a 50/50 mix. I thinned the hell outta the paint so it took a good 3 coats to get a decent-ish coverage.
I will be going for an unusually bright colour for kharn as i want him to stand out. The base will use very dull tones to hopefully boost this.
Next colour will the the main basecoat, mech. red. From there i will start to build up with mech. red/blood red, blood red then some orange/blood red. + various washes and shading inbetween
Im planning on doing the plasma pistol in bone, i think it will look pretty sweet.
I would like to do the trim in NMM but i've never done it so i might not even attempt it :(
As for the base i wanted to do temple type base (an Imperial style temple not a chaos one). But now, seeing as he has an affiliation with skulls i was thinking of a skull type base. I would really like to do a temple base but the skulls fit the fluff etc. Just it seems a little cheesy and a cliche.
Anyway enough blabbing.
Some rather dull photos of a base coat. lol...I will tidy up the black one i have finished the armour.
The coverage is still not that great as i really thinned the paints
Back
Side
Front
Back pack
Helmet
That's all for now...
Tomorrow i have to collect my miniature to convert for a Nurgle Daemon prince. I've waited so long for it and it came this morning, but i was in the shower so i have to collect it from Royal Mail. There's also another surprise miniature i bought, but i won't even show that till im ready for it.
I need some supplies too before i start on the Daemon, GS, Sculpting tools, craft mat, hobbys knives...this hobby is starting to get extremely expensive....

When you call an intimate moment with your partner "the Assault Phase"
Is that followed by a pile-in move?
That brings a whole new meaning to the term "Hit and Run"
Can that be following a deep strike, or do you have to wait until the next round? |

Thanks Bascilica, It's got a fair way to go yet. But im happy with how its going. It spilled on the shoulder pad and lower legs the most. Nothing bad as its thin. There's so much detail on this model its hard not to hit something lol.
Looking back at the photos, i missed his feet...or boots rather...*sigh* lol.

I love the Kharn model, its one of my favourites. Like you said, it's still amazing even put up against recent sculpts. A lot of people say the pose is boring but i love it!
The Daemon Prince is going to be a killer, im already getting excited about doing it and it hasn't even arrived yet and probably wont for at least another week :(
Oh well.
Sunday tomorrow so i should be getting a lot more done on Kharn.
I've seen some rather nice bases that i want to have a go at too.

I thought i would post a few pictures of the second Greater Demon I'm going to convert. It was originally an Enigma miniature (This isn't the one im going to use for the Nurgle Demon), I'm planning to convert this to a Greater Demon of Khorne.
The original is absolutely ripped. It's a really detailed sculpt. Luckily the original had legs styled like that of the GW Demon although without the wings, easy enough to buy and convert. I was also luckily that the mini has a really simple head join. The body has a neck which is awesome so should make the whole process of producing a head to fit nicely rather tame.
Anyway enough breeze. Heres some pics.
Size comparison with an Ork Nob. How nice is the clever/sword!
Weapon close up
Ripped chest - main reason for deciding to convert is that you wouldn't see the chest with the supplied head.
The original head
Head and body
Back. Very muscly so it won't be too hard to make it look like he can support wings.
Back again...wait whats that.
Yes...An anus and a ball sack...at least i have somewhere to pin the tail...
So yeah that's basically it. Just wanted to share the photos.
Unfortunately no progress shots of Kharn. I have to pic up some new glasses tomorrow so ill see if they make a difference with my painting.
Hopefully by tomorrow night i will have the armour painted upto Mech. red/blood red and base the trim and skulls with brown ready for some rather reluctant NMM attempts. :S
Still no package for the Nurgle conversion *sigh*...
Slappy
EDIT - A list of things i purchased ready for basing and converting etc.
Round Paint palette - I don't own a pallet so i thought i would get one.
6 inch strip of green stuff - Never used green stuff or any putty, i know how ever that it can dry to a slightly flexible hardness so i bought some milliput too to stiffen it up.
Milliput Standard - Already explained why i bought it but ill also use it for milliput washes to fill in cracks on metal that sometimes happens. Also i can use it for sculpting bit you cant see.
3/64 Brass Rod - Pinning and other stuff. I think 3/64's is like 1.1mm so it will be easy enough to fit in with the glue to fill it out.
1.2mm drill bits - Odd sized drill bit but was the best i could find for the 3/64ths brass rod
Basing Supplies - just some rocks and stuff

I've bought some Acrylic Matt Medium as i felt i wasn't getting the finish and spread of pigment that i needed.
I purchased Windsor & Newton Matt Medium and would recommend it. If not that specific product then just having a matt medium, it really does make a difference when used sparingly (so i have found anyway).
Anyway!
I haven't posted pics of progress as i have been busy finding a job and other nonsense, but i digress.
Here are some shots of the progress to the main armour colour. It's taking quite a long time to get what i want - which is far beyond my ability as a beginner!
I decided to try and fade from brown to red. Its going ok. I think i need to have a really thin wash of red to bring it together as its looking quite choppy at the moment.
I need a new camera and not use the photo thing on my camcorder.
The pics don't do the job justice.
Head - looks a bit bubbly :S
Back shoulderpad and arse bit
Side profile
Full back
Backpack
Side again
Back again
Front
So that's it really. I'm torn between Bone, NMM Gold or Bronze for the armour trim.
Bone will look slick but i initially only wanted to do the plasma pistol and skulls on the pack and between his legs bone
Gold NMM would be sweet but it's beyond me, but i have to start somewhere right?
Bronze is the easy way out. I need to make it look sweet though if i do. Overdo the verdigris?!
Anyway. I'm off for some Pheasant, ta ta.

Thanks mate, means a lot.
I chickened out of NMM then i decided to do bone...
...Which i then pussed out on because i felt i couldn't make bone interesting enough, so i went with...
...BRONZE, with lots of strategically (hopefully) placed verdigris.
I first put down a layer of Cathlan brown (I noticed it would only take one coat of thinned bronze to cover after doing my Ork Nob this way).
I then did a layer of Vallejo Bronze and GW Black 70/30.
Pics.
Oh the bronze looks crap in the pics...they don't look that bad and still need touching/cleaning up.
Front - Brown
Shoulder pad - Brown (with a lovely mold line - ARGH!)
Front skull closeup - Brown
Helmet - Brown
Front - Bronze
Back - Bronze
Helmet - Bronze
Everything looks extremely dark at the moment. I will do a wash of black and brown to dull the shimmer, highlight back to bronze, a wash of badab black to recesses, highlight with a mix of chainmail/bronze, final highlight of mithril.
Then add the verdigris with a mix of either enchanted blue and a dash of snot green or hawk turqouise and a different green. I'll have to work that out.
Still nothing on my delivery's...bloody postal strike and crappy Eldritch Games.
To be delivered:
2 Enigma Mini's and paint from one place
Modeling supplies, putty and basing supplies from another
and a Mordheim Aenur model from ebay...which i've always loved.
I need some desk lamps with faux daylight bulbs too as I'm painting in the dark at the moment (well, with halogen bulbs...bad i know)
Im thinking about started a Warriors of Chaos army as well as a Chaos Daemon and CSM army.
Lot's to do.
Once i get all these supplies i promise this will be more interesting - i.e. photo's of lots of things not just tiny stages of one model, ha ha!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

So its been ages.
I finally got my order that i have been waiting for forever. Some problems, one being they didn't have the miniature in stock that i wanted for the nurgle demon prince conversion - even though they had supposedly ordered it to the shop. They sent me a free one for not getting the order to me quicker and generally messing me around...problem is they sent me a free miniature that i already have which is the big guy with his ballsack on display. Its in yellow Resin though which is kind of strange, it also has bits in it...
Strange eh?!
At least i have 2 so i can have a trial and error one as Im not that great at painting or converting - youll see my Marine Scout Sergeant later.
I did some lighter Verdigris on the Kharn which i have been a lazy bum on as i haven't done much else.
Needs cleaning up but its a little more obvious now.
I have started a conversion for a Marine Scout Sergeant which I used a old Blood Angels Death Company model to start with.
It took ages to file off the markings on the legs; extremely fiddly!
I also shaved the backpack bit off, cut the head off and the pistol hanging out of the holster.
I greenstuffed the slopped back bit that scouts have and also molded the breathing apparatus out of greenstuff.
I done some crude modelling of the pipes into the breathing gear. I will tidy it up as it was done just to see what it would look like.
I also cut and pinned some Catachan arms into position to give a nice dynamic pose.
The shoulder pads were made from thin GS sheets put into a normal SM shoulder pads.
I think it's going to look sweet once i've done the positioning and greenstuff properly.
C&C welcome.
