Subject: Noob Question - What's the story behind 1750 pts?

Hello, newish 40k player. No tourney experience, just one other friend who plays.
I'm just wondering what the history behind the 1750 pt army list is? Is that a tournament standard?
Sorry If I'm posting this question in the wrong forum.
Thanks!

Well, 1500 to 1850 pts is a tournament standard.
It allows to field a larger variety or number of units and still allows to play a game within 2 or 2.5 hours.

We play 1750 a lot since it allows you to squeeze in that extra expensive HQ like Calgar or a Heavy like a Land Raider. Besides that I just think the lists are easier to build around that number than 1500.

Well, GT's take place at 1500 pts ( UK), 1750 pts (Germany), and 1850 pts (US).

I think way back standard was 1500 and 2000. But when you keep to those same numbers (which were really only there because they're round) you tended to get the same lists. So to mix things up, and remove generals from their well practiced comfort zone, non-round values started being used by some TOs. Hence numbers like 1750, 1850, and 2250 in whfb.

Ok, well this is always tough to explain...
Well here goes. You see, when a 750 point list and a 1000 point list love each other very much...

They combine, mutating into a horrible, disgusting, fetid creature of a thing known as the 1,750 point list.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.
