I am considering getting into wargames. Specifically I am looking at Warhammer 40k Space Orks. It just looks like a lot of fun.
I have been playing role playing games for thirty years, and wargames have always been in the same shops that I found my rpgs in, and they always looked like fun. The closest thing to wargaming I do is large fights in an rpg (currently Savage Worlds Slipstream) using scenery I have made. I have really enjoyed looking at the scenery and models folks have put up on youtube, and find it almost irresistable.

The great thing about Wargaming is you can do it for so many different reasons, whether you're a modeler/converter, painter or gamer. It accommodates a lot of different people.
I'd strongly advise taking to people in a gaming store and here on Dakka before plunging into wargaming though, as it can potentially be a very expensive hobby.

A good choice is the Assault on Black Reach set. You get a lot of figures, and quite a few orks.
Also, there are some websites that will sell it 20% off, so you get the set for $60 instead of $75 retail.
