A good choice of item. Be sure to have her join the RBT unit! Also consider a dispel scroll for a one-off spell breaker.

Make them 6 wide, 4 deep. Warriors are there to provide combat resolution, and they need a musician too so they have a better chance of winning against rank-and-file troops.

Make the first unit 24-strong, and drop the Banner of Murder for a War Banner or just a normal SB. Convert the rest into Dark Riders using the Wood Elves Glade Riders box, because you have nothing fast enough to help out your Cold One Knights.

Use Manbane instead. It kills monsters and characters with ease.

Split the units in half. 10 men per unit is better for shooting, as you'll see with most shooty units.

Pretty good. Take a magic item on the Dread Knight, preferably the Ring of Hotek or Null Talisman, as you have very little magic defense.

Good for a shooting list, but how about a Hydra instead? You have enough Repeater Crossbowmen to deal with Knights and Warriors of Chaos, which are very well armoured, but Hydras are an absolute steal for what you pay.

Okay, from first glance, a couple of things to tweak:

Split your Dark Riders into two units of 5. The herald and standard bearer aren't necessary. Add musicians and Rxbs to each and you have fine flanking and harrassing units that can march block, mage hunt and take out war machines as well as add a few shots here and there to take out a rank or even support your infantry with a flank charge.

The COK unit is a bit large for 2000 points. I generally find that 5 or 6 does the trick at this points level which would save you some points for a magic standard. The Standard of Slaughter is great on these guys.

Your warrior blocks look okay but you might want to consider adding the War Banner to one of those units for some extra SCR. It will help in the long run.

Good luck and have fun with the army.

Dark Riders should be taken in units of 5. Also, they don't need a Champion or a Standard Bearer. They do need Repeater Crossbows and a Musician though.

The Repeater Crossbow units don't need a Champion.

You seem to have a whole lot of Core, but didn't take any Harpies! Harpies are one of the best units the Dark Elves have. They should be taken as units of 5 for march-blocking, war-machine hunting and general annoyance.

The single lv2 Sorceress isn't going to do anything in the offensive magic phase (probably) so you might as well just leave the Sorceress as a lv1. Also, she could use a Dispel Scroll.

Cavalry (like the Cold One Knights) aren't usually taken in multiple ranks. You are paying 135 points for +1 CR, which is a bit much.

My overall opinion on the list, is that it seems very Core heavy. Most people in WHFB just take minimum Core (like in 40k 4th Edition), because the Core units are simply not as good as the other units.

Thing is, according to my army book, I can't have any more rares, and only 2 more specials.

You have 1 Rare and 1 Special choice. In a 2000 points game, that leaves you with another Rare slot and 3 more Special slots.

Alrighty then, split the Dark Riders into 2 groups of 5, added a unit of harpies, added a unit of witch elves, reduced the unit of cold ones knights.

At 2000 points you must have 3 core units, and can have 0-4 special, 0-2 Rare, 4 total characters (1 lord).

Characters
The only reason to have a Dreadlord is for a dragon imo, since your not taking a dragon a master does the job just as well - also can save you some points.
The Sorceress should stay as a lvl 1, give her a dispell scroll and lifetaker (guiding eye is nice but is one use only)

Core
The Warriors are fine as is.
The Dark riders should be in 2 groups of 5 with xbows and nothing else - if you have points a musician but even then their not that important.
No Guardmaster for the Xbows - wasted points.
The assassins can both have Manbane, its not a magical item, its a gift of khaine. You should also either give them rending stars or extra hand wepons.

Speical
Why all the CoK, take them in 2 groups of either 5 or 6, with a banner. They need flank charges. If you want a magical banner take the banner of Cold Blood so they can charge when you need them too. Ring works in one of the groups, probably with your general.

A better choice imo, would be taking 3 Chariots, they kill just as much and are cheaper.

Rare
Hydra is a Hydra.

Takes longer to comment on the entire army...

I would still switch out the Eye for another Dispell Scroll but thats just because I play in a magic heavy area.

Is dispelling stuff really that important?

Can a magic/dispel free list work?

Depends on how much magic your opponent is bringing.

The Ring is not the magic defence ace that people believe it is. If your opponent has 1 or 2 dice spamable spells then the Ring won't do jack as it requires doubles (which are less likely with only 2 dice). The Ring is ment for stoping the higher lvl spells that can really ruin your day...

If your opponent isn't taking a lvl 4 and only runs 1 or 2 lvl 2's with a combat hero then no, magic is not hard to defend against. Then again if they are bringing a lvl 4 and 3 lvl 2's your in for some hurt if you only have 1 dispell scroll and 3 dispell dice.

For me I'de rather have the extra dispell scroll as I tend to play agaisnt magic heavy armies like Tzneech WoC, Skyre Scaven and VC (thats why I also take a lvl 4 for my base lord choice).
