I am teaching my girlfriend how to play WH40K before she buys any models for her own army. So I took a few squads of vets with heavy weapons and special weapons, a pair of HQs, and a pair of scout sentinels and armored sentinels. Well around turn 3 she blew the autocannon off my armored sentinel so I decided the only thing left to do was to get stuck in. I assaulted one of her vets squads and started punting guardsmen around. Problem was vets have krak grenades. Turns out my girlfriend is remarkably luck in chainrolling 6's and she immobilized the sentinel. Next turn she was able to stun the walker without taking any wounds, thus winning the combat. So what happens now? Does the walker stay stuck in? Would it normally walk away? It is immobilized so it can't leave the combat, but would it leave the combat if its legs weren't broken? How do I play this?

(The guys at the gameshop decided it couldn't leave combat, so it stayed in and got blown up the next turn anyway.)

Walkers never fall back from an assault.

If you check the rules for Walkers and Assaults (page 73) it states that they never take Morale checks, and are not subject to the No Retreat rule.

So if they lose a combat, they just stay right where they are. So sounds like you played it about right.

Walkers do not flee from combat. They are subject to No Retreat! and instead take an additional glancing hit for each point they lost the combat by.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

you can never choose to leave a combat until the enemy is dead, Unless you have VERY specific rules allowing you to.

so no, neither of those involved in the combat could back out unless the other is dead.

Nope. That was last edition. This edition:

Rulebook, page 73: Walkers and Assaults, 2nd last paragraph wrote:Defeated walkers do not take Morale checks and are not affected by the No Retreat! rule.

Oops. Wrong rulebook. My mistake.

But as I understand it, aren't vehicles that are both immobilised and have no weapons destroyed?

Only if they take ANOTHER weapon destroyed / immob result: if they take as many as they have weapons +1 then they are ok.

Vehicles that have no Weapons left treat Weapon Destroyed Results as Immobilised.
Immobilised vehicles treat Immobilised Results as Weapon Destroyed.
Immobilised Vehicles that have no Weapons left treat Weapon Destroyed and Immobilised results as Wrecked

I thought that was only if they got another gun destroyed/immobilized?

Edit:
