Well here is the start of my Elven project - a group of Elves following their exiled Prince into the Old World attempting to stop the diabolical plans of the Dark Elves and believing they are destined to found a new Elven city and bring about a new age of glory (if the rival Gods permit it).
I know that most people associate Nagarythe with blues/greys/purples but I decided to base my colour scheme around that of a traditional Greek hoplite (since my army is heavily influenced by Greek and Roman stories/Heroes). I wanted a look that wasn't as 'clean and pure' as Elves tend to be, but not as Dark-Elven as many other Nagarythe forces tend to lean to. Here's the colour scheme - what do you think of it?
The areas of decoration that are brown will eventually be done in Bronze - I didn't have the right paints however. The shield, when added will be a black field with the starburst done in red and bronze, with the central gem in blue like those above. Basically the shield on pg87 of the army book but with the gem/stripe colours reversed (or they'll have Hoplons if I can get enough of them - see the note where I'm discussing my Lord). I'm also not sure how to paint the spear yet. A natural wood-tone is tempting, but I've never done it before. Still I've a couple of spare (including this one) to practice on I guess - any tips before I try?
I really suck at painting Elven skin it appears. Not only did I find it tricky to paint the face with that helmet on (being a
40K player I'm used to open faces) but Elf Flesh is a horrible paint, I've decided

Far too yellow-ish and looks quite odd to me. Any tips on painting Elvish skin would be really appreciated (for the record I based with Tanned Flesh, washed with Ogryn, layered with Dwarf, washed with Sepia, put on Elf Flesh, washed with Ogryn again; the layers don't show up that well in the pic...not that they really exist, my paint was so thin the normal flesh colours acted like inks).
I thought I might as well kick this off with a
WIP shot of my Prince. He'll eventually be armed with a magic weapon, a ranged weapon and a magical shield (though what I'm still playing around with - current idea is Blade of Sea Gold, Longbow, Golden Shield), and is supposed to represent Aeneas in the armour created for him by Vulkan, from the Aeneid.
Still sculpting a full-faced helmet and have to bulk the armour on the arms up. That shield is also just a place-holder until I can get my hands on some proper Hoplon shields (apparently there is a local shop that sells historical wargaming stuff in 28mm, and I should be able to pick the shields up by the bucket load).
I decided to start assembling my Archers (because I build the spearmen to test paint-schemes on and fancied a change). I wanted to give them a Standard Bearer and Light Armour - against logic, I know - because the appeal of Fantasy, to me, is ranks of Infantry in shining armour with banners waving on the breeze. Plus my Lord sometimes hangs out with them early in the game and actually makes them a potent combat unit against enemy that tend to pick on Archers. Pretty big kit-bash here, but have been very fun to build.
Still need to greenstuff on straps for the quivers, they look a little out-of-place (and comically large too, silly old plastics, but the straps should fix that).
Finally there's the Shadow Warrior I've shown before. I'm going to work on his mates once the Archers are done - the Archer heads are going to be put to good use, have no fear (and the Archer legs will be used on some of my Spearmen, so nothing should be wasted)
Well, what do you think? It's my first Fantasy army and I've got a theme I'm working too (I'll post the full background up sometime soon) - but what does everyone else think, am I on the right track or am I making things way too complicated?
