Some of the metal models I've put together recently fit into slotted bases. Some of the plastic base slots have gaps left behind after the model is glued in, because the slot part on the model isn't long enough.
I'm looking for some suggestions on how to fill up the gaps, without using green stuff.
Thanks!

Bend the metal tabs into a ) shape
make sure the glue is on the 3 parts sticking out. ( 2 ends and the curved raised surface )

That's a good answer to a completely different question, Luna...
The easiest way to cover the slot is to stick a small piece of masking tape over the hole before applying flock/gravel/whatever.
Blue- tac (or whatever the sticky stuff used to stick posters on the wall happens to be called in your own country) also works well.
If the gap's only small, you can also sometimes get away with just ignoring it. Particularly if texturing the base with a gravel mix... use a generous blob of glue over the hole, and the gravel covers it.

There are cheaper types/brands of putty, clay and the like available.
I use milliput for larger, non detailed filling work.

Best thing I found to do was grab a bit of plastic sprue, wedge and glue it in so it fuses with the base, then trim off the bit that sticks out.

^This works well.
Particularly combined with plastic glue.

I use Squadron Green Putty. It's cheaper than Green Stuff and comes in a handy squeeze tube. It doesn't work at all for fine detail , but it fills gaps nicely.

I use SG putty for filling gaps when model sides don't quite come together by thinning it with some liquid poly and painting it into the gap.
Another good idea, though.

I usually use a lot of glue and just hope the paint covers it. If it's exceptionally bad I've used drywall plaster before, but only because I tend to have it handy, not because I made a special point of using it.

I use heavy texture on my bases, so I just fill the hole with glue and sand.

Simplest and cheapest way is to use a piece of tape over the slot. Trim the excess, then glue the sand on and prime and paint.

I usually tend to use masking tape... But have started cutting the tab off and pinning them to a non-slotted base. That is assuming there is something to drill into.
