You can take one for each heavy support choice you have, as they are in the heavy support section. In most 2k point games you'll have 3 heavy support choices.

3 as per the force organization chart. Unless noted as "unique" "0-1" or some other mention you are only limited by the FOC. Though why you would take 3 devs is beyond my understanding. . .

I know the feeling. It's why I run 2 armies (3 when the new nids codex is out). My Tau are geared & tailored to wn, where my SM are geared & tailored to look cool & be fun, though I don't win much .

I don't see why you can't have fun and kick ass. Devastators are pretty good to have around.

Tombworld El'Lahaun 2500pts
Hive Fleet Vestis 5000pts
Disciples of Caliban 2000pts
Crimson Fist 2000pts
World Eaters 1850pts
Angels Encarmine 1850pts
Iron Hospitalers 1850 pts (Black Templar Successor)
Sons of Medusa 1850pts
Tartarus IXth Renegade Legion 2500pts

I agree with ghost. A well placed devastator squad can really bring the pain, but then again, thats only a well placed one lol

No. It's just that after getting crushed a few times playing starts to lose its magic.

Devs are a bit expensive & not very mobile if you want to shoot. Let's look at this:

5 man dev squad, 2 Lascannons (Anti-tank role), P Cannon & Heavy Bolter = 200 pts & they can die from almost anything.

My preferred option:

Landraider w/ Multi-Melta & Extra armour = 275 pts. For the extra 75 pts I get the lascannons twin linked, a twin linked assault cannon, a 14 round armour value (Nothing below S8 can touch it) and the ability to throw my assault termies in there & deliver them to your front door. Not to mention I can move 6" & still fire 2 of those weps thanks to PoMS.

Devs are not bad I just think there are much better options.

The funny thing is, Space Marines consider Devastators useless and easy to kill, while Space Wolves have Long Fangs, who are the only GOOD Heavy Support squad in the whole codex

Too true, Long Fangs are everything Dev's should be.

But aren't long fangs limited to just 6 models so if you load up on the guns, you don't have the ablative wounds?

A Devastator Squad with 10 Marines, 4 Plasma Cannon, and LC Razorback with all of the bells and whistles cost 385 points. My normal mix of 3 [4x PC/4x PC/4x HB] cost 770 [1,115 with Razorbacks]. Its pricy and you end up with 3 [Non-Scoring] extra Combat Squads.

Maybe Im missing something, but they seem alright to me. 198 points for 4x Missles/Multimeltas and 3 extra marines.

I run Chaos Havocs for 195 with 4 autocannons, an Icon, 3 extra marines. SMs dont get autocannons though (suckers )

Off topic a bit but you know something. I love devy squads, I wish there was a special char that let you take some as elites or something.

I play to get my ass kicked....

But yes, Max 3.

In fact, My Imperial Fists Force is meant to be a fun list, hell, all my lists are fluffy (But should someone bring up their beatstick list I'm in for a short game, but it's all good)

Devs with 4 Missile Launchers and Sarge FTW!

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I currently have close to 4000 pts of salamander space marines and so far my fav unit is the 10 man dev squad split into combat squads, they have proven to be more than a pain in the ass when i play against my buddys necrons, so thank you everyone for your input!

Always play to have fun. It's a very random d6 game. Have you ever seen the hyper competitive magic players? They forgot about fun.

Hey we still have fun. We are just so bitter and Jaded we only derive fun from the misery of others.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

If you are seeing more than three in your games you might be looking at Sternguard squads which can have multiple budget heavy weapons.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
