im fairly new to wargaming so if this is an issue raised before then i apologise.my question is pretty simple really,
why do a lot of people seem to hate both the ultramarines and the space wolves.I like both chapters but have heard enthusiasts in my local gw and on various forums hammering both chapters.
maybe as im new i havent discovered what it is with these two that gets people vexed.

Ultras get hate because they are the poster boys that attract newbies. In a game system that uses the marine profile as the median in the game, they are doubly generic. They are the median of the median to many people boring. The new codex (last year) and the comments of the codex writer don't help either: make it out like all marine chapters look to the ultras for guidance and leadership. Pah.

Wolves are just getting the hate now because they have a shiny new codex with shiny new toys and we're still in the phase where it's not clear if it's "totally overpowered" or "totally underpowered" or something in between.

Space Wolves also get hate because Space Marine variant chapters are frowned upon by a lot of people who don't like Space Marines in the first place.

Space Wolves usually get a lot of hate because they have, like, "developer's favorite son" status. They've typically been under-costed and over-powered.

wall i Hate SM and love the wolf ( even though i get my ass kick be the wolf)
and most of the people i know hate the UltraFages because of the background
that was given them. i mean what did they do in the heresy they did nothing.
But the wolfs they kick ass and chewed bubblegum.

Yup, Ultramarines are the poster boys you see everywhere you see general marines packaging, and Space Wolves are definitely the most popular non-Ultra chapter. So naturally, people will hate the popular ones.
Personally, I appreciate both armies, but I'll stick to my Dark Angels.

Space dogs because of the rampant mary sue-ness they have, Leman Russ fanboys... omg "Leman Russ could kill a titan by looking at it lololwoofdrool" and just general wolf retardation, also the cheese..

I tried real hard to jump on the Space wolf bandwagon painted two space wolf things and now hate them.

Also they have to of the most slowed names in 40k.

Meh their all the same loyalist marines to me.
Personally speaking I like the Wolves but they take the wolf theme way.. to far.
And as much as I hear about being common I have only ever seen 2 ultrasmurf armies.
