Hello
As some people may have seen, I've been making a little army for a tournament, and as i have no time, I've used Army Painter Quickshade to shade them. The shading worked great, but unfortunately, Quickshade is also a gloss varnish, so now I have an army of VERY shiny little squats.

What's the quickest way to get the shine off? Quick spray with Matt Varnish? Can anyone recommend one?

I have a tin of Purity Seal laying around - is that a Matt Varnish, or Satin? What's the difference? Will it work?

Here's the models in question...

For the love of god don't use that GW Purity seal... it is a bane to most painters. Just search the forums and you will see what I mean.

Get testors dullcote. There are some others that people do recommend but testors dullcote is most often reviewed as the best choice. It can also fix the cloudy horror caused by Purity seal.

Testors matt coat will settle it very easily. Just let it sit each use in warm not hold or cold put warm water up to an inche for 5 minutes. It will do wonders

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

+1 vote for Dull Cote.

I had the same problem with a bunch of my IG that I had used an artist's spray varnish on that left them looking gloosy. A quick coat of the Testor's knocked it right down.

Dullcote spray's banned in the EU, isn't i? Is the paint-on stuff just as good?

I have been useing a product called Delta Ceramcoat interior matte varnish. It is a brush on product that comes in 2oz. bottles, I got it at a local craft store for about a dollar. It drys to a pretty matte finish, but also builds a little, I use it for doing away with those little lines that are visible whenever you put on a decal.

Oo and I thought the US was crazy on banning stuff. Just use an airbrush if not testors has all sorts of great stuff that is paint on.

What I have been using is tamiya x21 flat base mixed with future floor wax (which is acrylic based). Can be airbrushed or brused on.

Thank everyone.

It seems Dullcote is pretty hard to get hold of over here. I guess the Tamiya one should be easier to find.

Any UK painters know of anything?

I was thinking of popping down to Modelzone later on - they usually stock Humbrol Sprays - maybe they have a Matt one...?
