My grey knights are decent when it comes to fights but if a close combat unit doesnt fall to the massed psycannon/lascannon/misslelaunchers i seem to die in combat (looking at khorne zerkers, termies with storm shield thunder hammer, lightning claws watev.)
Would a wolf guard squad or two (I hear the best bang for your buck) be worth it against my frequent fights against both loyalists and chaos marines or should I bite the bullet and get a land raider to fill my last heavy support slot
this is a rough outline for the army its around 1150 pts
GK grand master
15 grey knights 3 justicars 2 psycannons incinerator divided into 3 saquads
10 inquistoral stormtroopers (2 grenade launchers) 2 squads
2 dreadnoughts (lascannon/misslelauncher)

I don't believe you can take Wolf Guard in your Demonhunters army. You can, however, take a selection of Demonhunter allies in a Space Wolves army.

Ya, thats correct. Grey Knights, according to the fluff, don't call upon regular marines for backup, but marines can call on GK's. I guess there are exceptions to that rule, but I guess GW doesn't write for fluff exceptions.

What you could do is take Logan Grimnar, a Grand master, 2 squads of grey knights in power armor, maybe a tele attack squad, a couple of units of wolf guard as troops, and then the dreads?

That could be an intrguing combination - I should take a look at the Demonhunters codex.

I'm not sure fluffwise whether the SW would be keen on calling on _anyone_ else as allies, but I'm sure a bit of fluff could be thought up re some joint mission.

The SW have used the gk in the past against such threats as Angron, Primarch of the World Eaters. I was building an army like this for my buddies recreate of the battle of Armageddon.

I was just thinking that it would look cool together and allow daemonhunters to be a little more dangerous in the eyes of opponents.

O.K. looking through GW website i was wondering if a lone wolf could be taken as a HQ because i could buy a wolf pack and codex and use my old inqustoral stormtroopers as scouts

No the lone wolf is only an elite choice and anyone who doesn't take the gk some what serious is crazy. The grandmaster is probably the strongest 145 pt model in the game!

1) there on the older side and less people play them so they are always viewed as 3rd if not their own little 4th tier (from what i hear at least)
2) what HQ would you reccomend
3) I know i need 1hq from the main list but do i need 2 space wolf troop choices or 1?

you need one HQ (being space wolves you can fit another into the same slot) and 2 troops coices from the space wolves

From DH you can take 1 HQ, 1elites choice 1 fast attack and 2troops choices

1) Yes people confuse with old for crap, but I have never seen anything for his pt cost stronger than a grandmaster cept maybe an eldar faseer..
2) Well It depends on if you want him to be front line, support, or a what. The SW have a very diverse bunch of HQs due to their obsession with heroes.
3) 2 troops and I would suggest grey hunters because of their ability to shoot. That would support your dk termies or something.

ok so my list will be somewhat like
HQ-GK grand master
HQ- tbd space wolf leader
troops-Wolf pack (kit) which squad should i turn it into
troops- 7 scouts (inquistoral stormtroopers theyre cadians slightly converted painted in camo am i stretching it?
troops- 10 pagk 2 psycannons 1 justicar(included)
troops- 5 Pagk incinerator 1 justicar (icluded)
Heavy support- Dreadnought (what should i use all arms are magnetized
Heavy support- Dreadnought (same as above)

I haven't calculated upgrades so what do people think of it. How bad will it perform so far it will cost $55 (wolf pack and codex) and then i have to include a hero which i will probably convert up.....anyone know which i should do?

Well to decide on where to go from there ya prob need to know your current pt value. Then figure out a way to mobilize your forces whether its a pod, rhino, razorback etc. Otherwise looks like a solid start.

well the gk's alone totale to 1000
the former inquistoral stormtroopers brought me to 1150 im hopin to shoot for 1500-1750

would the batallion be worth it because i could convert a scout into a leader guy and then just purchase the codex to bring me up to the points....or am i just thinking waaaaay to fast

Calm down there killer, with good start the next best place would be to look at the sw codex a little to make further tweaks. I mean you may find something in there that could totally change your path all together. Try not to spend money without facts.

You really need both codexs to make a list ... i have them just a rough list using what you've said you've got and where it can go

HQ
Grand Master + Psychic Hood 165pts (unlimited range hood is a gift)
Rune Pries + Master runic + chooser of the slain 160pts (more psychic power since it feels right)

Elites
Wolf Guard (10) +Terminator armour (2)+ CML (2) + Drop pod 305pts
2XDreadnought + Drop pod 140pts

Troop
Storm Troopers (7) + melta gun(2) + rhino 140pts
Grey Knights (10) + PsyCannon(2) 325pts
2XGrey Hunters (8) + Free Flamer + mark of Wulfen + Drop pod 170pts

Fast
Grey Knights (5) + Incinerator 160 (has to go here as you've filled up the troop allowance ... on the other hand they can DS possibly with the grand master)

Total 1875pts ... No its not the best list but its what you mention wanting. (Wolf guard in terminator armour join the grey hunter for a little extra fire power) (thrown every thing in drop pods for simplicities sake, SW's rhino also cost 35pts so straight swap ). I do suggest you purchase the Space Wolves codex and if at all possible you try some of the units out in a proxy game before buying any space wolves units.

not huge on the wolf guard termis but i was thinking of dropping the stormtroopers all together to put the grey knights in the troops slot
im thinking of dropping the drop pods on the dreads because the sole purpose of the wpace wolves is to do the combat for my grey knights
and i wish the space wolf commander was more of a CC hero

Close combat hero ... Ten to one odds your going to take a Wolf lord on a thunder wolf, with a thunder hammer and a storm-shield 205pts WS6 S5 T5 W3 I5 A5

May also want a pack of thunderwolf Calvalry 50pts each (S5 T5 A4 and rending)

Man this is one confusing topic filled to the brim with errors.

If you want some real cc support from SW's, you will probably not have much space left for your grey knights

You have cc monsters in your own codex. The grand master is an insane monster in combat. Grey knight termies are all pretty much armed with relic blades, pretty damn scary too. Sure, you won't win a combat against TH&SS termies, but very little does that. If your opponent uses them on foot, they should be no problem for you, as you can just walk away from them. If he uses a land raider, then you have issues, as you have very little in your list to stop it, but again, your real problem is not the termies, in that case, it's the LR.

Grey knights don't need CC help, they need anti-tank help. I would really rather invest in the raider for a bit more anti-tank, and for a reliable delivery-system for termies + grand master (then they will get the charge on stuff like berserkers, and they will eat them for lunch)

You could use a SW Redeemer and paint and convert it into a GK tank. Would be awsome to play and fluff wise (purging fire), legal and quite unique. + You would have a damn good transport for your grandmaster, one unit of grey knights (terminators or not) and the WGBL which could deal with most units in the game (redeemers are awsome vs. hordes AND vs. marines, never forget that) .
Best thing to support them would be Rhino Grey Hunters and long range support via long fangs and the damn cheap and really cost-effective Predators (Vindicator?).
And you could paint them all as Grey Knights ...

Dark it was, and dire of form
the beast that laid them low
Hrothgar's sharpened frost-forged blade
to deal a fatal blow
he stalked and hunted day and night
and came upon it's lair
With sword and shield Hrothgar fought
and earned the name of slayer
