I am starting a necron army. I wanted a shooting army.
I might use the deceiver or Nightbringer for some assault action. I was told ,Necrons are vulnerable to assault armies.
I have enough Necron Warriors (got 55 on ebay by mistake) and I have 1 Monolith. What units are good and what elite are stink.
Flayed ones,?Pariahs. ?

I have heard good things about Immortals and destroyers.
Do Toumb Spiders really hold a flank. They have WS,BS2?
(My codex is on order, don't have rules.)
I have read, 40K Vets will Ignore my Monolith and try to phase me out. It might not get any action.
What are some good long range vehicle killers.?
Tricks,IC equipment loadouts?

Pariahs are generally considered rather pricey for what they do, especially given how fragile they are and that they don't contribute to your Phase Out total; which, at 36 pts a model, is a bit high for most people. Flayed Ones can be surprisingly effective, especially with the 5th Infiltrate rules; I've had them tie up and (eventually) kill units like Ravenwing Bikers,

You heard right =) These two are often considered the mainstay 'elite' units of a Necron army, given their impressive firepower and toughness. They can lead to a bit of a 'cookie cutter' army, but they're undeniably effective.

This is a pretty sound tactic, especially if you've taken a rather 'elite' army; if you've only got say 20 Necron models on the table, it's a lot easier for opponents to fire on them madly and try to knock down/kill 15 to force you to phase out. If you can 'force' them to attack the Monolith, say by deep striking it into their army, or alternatively use the portal and res orbs to their max effect, this should help to circumnavigate this in my experience.

Long range? er, Heavy Destroyers are about as long-range as it gets =P

Anyway, most of my Necron experience is limited to 3rd and 4th, given that Eldar seem to have captured my heart now and my Necrons are taking a break from 5th =P, so I'll let some more 5th-experienced player take over =)

Ah fellow Necron player, Pariahs are little bit to overpriced, Stick with immortals. Go with the night-bringer, as he as an assault 1 strength 9 ap2 attack amazing at people. I am a bit monolith heavy army, i've developed some effective strategy for them stick around the monolith so you wont get raped in close combat i've run into that problem with khrone(spl) brezerkers.

Hey also, give your lord rez or and destroyer body.

Most effective things I have used have been destroyers, heavy destroyers, I use destroyers for 4+ save or ork armies while the heavy for space marines or tank killers, Immortals are good but you have to be careful of how expensive they are. And monolith is an amazing model that helps protect you from assaults, and helps keep your army moving. As for the C'tan gods, I got the night bringer, didn't like him too much, if you use him don't worry about his shooting attack just try to get him into melee as fast as you can, this is where he earns his points back.

This is good.... isn't it?

Tomb spyders are suprisingly useful for necrons IMO. I've found opponents will either fire everything at them, allowing you to take an early advantage at the cost of it, or ignore them and let them wreck considerably more than their points in vehicles.

I think Pariah can be a very useful tool in 5th edition. They need to work with the deciever or nightbringer to get the most out of them. If the Ctan can hit a unit in melee they will likely win the combat by 2 or 3 wounds. If the Pariah are nearby then the unit will most likely break looking for a 5 or 4 on 2d6. A small unit of four wandering behind the mono is all you need. Its only 144 points. Not to mention they can still take on TH/SS termies or meganobz in a pinch.

Immortals are good, as are Destroyers at shooting. I prefer the Destroyers, even though more exspensive, they can keep the enemy a little bit further away engaging them at 36" as opposed to 24".

T. Spyders, if you create just one swarm, can actually barrel into a 10 man unit of marines and do fairly well. The enemy has a hard time doing much damage to the T6 unit and the T. spyder usually kills 2 and if your lucky 3 on the charge. If the enemy hits with just one power fist, take it on the Spyder and you win combat. Its not a sure win by any means but can also be a useful delay tactic to buy some time. Plus its only a 55 point unit. I woulndt go picking any old fight with the tomb spyder but he can rip up tanks as well.

Wraiths can be deadly when used in numbers so I would not ignore them either. The only unit in the codex that I really dont like using is the warriors. I use as little as possible. It hurts sometimes and I get phased, but IMO it is the only build that has a compettive chance.

In 1850 games I use one mono. If I had no Ctan I might use two but I think 3 is overkill. Its not bad, just you are depending on the monos to do more damage than they can dish out. One or two gives you damage output with lots of tactical flexibility.

Glad to see someone else taking up the Necron banner. They are my favorite army to play, but they were very frustrating to learn at first, dont be too discouraged by a few phaseouts. The more you practice the more fun the army is to play.

Has anyone else found that they either slaugter opposition or lose a very tight match, and almost never phase out, because that's what my army always seems to do.
