I finally bought myself a few Tau units (A Stealth Suit team and a Fire Warrior squad) and I was wondering...is there any wargear that goes along with some of the extra bits that come in each of the two boxes? I noticed in the pictures of the Stealth Suit box that there seems to be an extra piece that just goes on a base by itself, which doesn't seem to match anything in the Codex. With the Fire Warriors, I also noticed that there are some techno-pieces that should be held in the palm of a hand - but I don't think it's an actual piece of gear in the 'dex. Are they just extra modeling bits, or are there actual pieces of gear that they're supposed to be?

And for a general modeling question, I was wondering - for the WYSIWYG rule, does that also work in reverse? I know that all equipment must be represented on the model, but does every piece of equipment on the model have to be taken by the unit? What I mean is, I notice the FW box has a few hands holding a grenade, but I've never really thought it was worth it to take them. If I choose to use the grenade hand, do I have to take the grenades in the army list?

Thanks for any and all answers.

the scanner the fire warrior holds is like the spacemarine auspex scanner, there is no current rule for these codex's but you can make some awsome poses and it makes sense that they have scanners because when you play the table top game how else to they know where there enemy is in the battlefield?

I always assumed the little fire warrior bit was like an auspex, too. It could be a drone controller if you wanted it to be. The bit in the stealth suit box is extra and doesn't really represent anything, I'm using them as objective markers.

Alright, good to know. So does anyone know the answer to my question about WYSIWYG? Does it work the same in reverse (If something is modeled, does it have to be taken in the army list?)

For small things like grenades, it doesn't really matter

You could use the little hand-held scanner to represent a Markerlight. The little gizmo in the XV25 box can just be used as an objective marker.

Or you could glue them one on top of the other, on a random firewarriors head........ thatll keep your opponent guessing

I decided to actually modify a grenade from the FW box for a markerlight. I took a grenade and cut it in half, then slightly widened the hand of one of the L-shaped left arms so the new bit could fit right inside it. I then basically put the arm upside down on the Shas'ui (so it's above his head, instead of holding a gun) and voila, he's now holding a handheld markerlight. It turned out really nice, although his topknot *almost* got in the way of the arm.
