Alright, this is more or less a Canis rush. Thoughts on what to do with it. C&C!

Vindicator (125)
+Siege Shield
Total: 1465
Got some points to spare, but that's the jist of it. Run the wolves up front and charge in behind for the cover saves. if wolves make it, tie up weak things for a turn or two and allow big hitters to attack the money targets. I would really like to fit a Rune Priest in their with JotWW and Living lightening. But I don't know what to drop. I kinda want this to be a universal list for all comers. But, mainly tau and dark angels. Hit me with the critiques!

Only two scorable troop choices.
The wolves will be better off as two large squads due to poor LD issues.
The grey hunters need transport as they do not serve well footslogging.
Good choice on heavy support but sadly that lone vindicator may be the target of alot of anti-tank.

your wolf packs are leadership 5 (with rerolls usually due to your thunderwolf cav). take a cheap hero with saga of the wolfkin (like a WGBL) since the squads can't all be within 12" of canis.

Well, your Fenresian Wolves and the Wolves Cavalry will be targeted first and eventually die from small arms fire.

Canis already has Saga of the Wolfkin [its under his wargear]
Everyone keeps saying "The Wolves are going to Die before they get there!". I can see were the Moral problem could be, loose 2 and make a check, at 15 it takes 4.
I would redistibute your wolves into larger packs, unless you are using them a meatshilds for the TWC, maybe two with a pair of Cyberwolves.

alright, all good suggestions. What ive come to understand is that for 1500 points, not gonna be able to take that much TWC. So, modified, here is what i have. Thoughts please, and the strat is going to stay the same, more or less. Run across the board behind the wolves. HQ: Wolf Lord: (220) +Thunderwolf Mount +TH/SS (edited for idiocy) +Saga of the Wolfkin Rune Priest: (100) -Living Lightening and Jaws of the World Wolf (JotWW) Fast Attack: Thunderwolf Cavalry x3 (175) (attach Wolf Lord) +Powerfist Fenrisian Wolves x10 (80) Fenrisian Wolves x10 (80) Troops: Grey Hunters x 10 (205) +MeltaGun x2 +Power Weapon +Rhino Grey Hunters x 10 (205) +MeltaGun x2 +Power Weapon +Rhino Grey Hunters x 10 (165) (attach RunePriest) +Flamer +MeltaGun +Power Weapon Heavy Support: Long Fangs x6 (140) +Missile Launcher x5 Vindicator (125) +Siege Shield Total: 1495 I believe the math adds up. I gave the wolf lord saga of wolfkin because the wolves need that 7 leadership, in my opinion. Initiative 5 is a plus, but the leadership is crucial. I added another troop choice as well as the Rune Priest at the cost of a Long Fangs pack and some broken up TWC units. I figure a chainfist and powerfist should cut through anything i run into, if they can make in. Charge it all behind the wolf screen. Maybe set up at start w/ the vindicator in the middle, flanked by Fenrisian wolves and with the TWC unit behind one side and the Rhino behind the other side. That way, screen the side of the vindicator with wolves, for a 4+ cover save on that weak side armor. As for the rune priest, charge it behind rhino's attached to that footslogging GH squad. LF will pick targets and do what they can. Wolves tie up the throw aways and allow the TWC a chance at big targets. Thoughts? I liked the other list because it brought so much, variety, but it was flimsy. this is more solid, at the cost of some firepower. I dont know though, as im still quite new to 40k. What can i do to tool this to handle almost any threat?

Canis > This Wolf Lord HQ. If you want a heavy-hitting model, use the thunder wolf. I suggest two storm shields (and a third with a p.fist) in a squad of three that includes Canis. When he charges, if its into a large enough squad, with some decent positioning you will get a silly number of attacks that always hit on 3+, that you can either re-roll to-hit or to-wound and you'll be rending aswell. Yes the Wolf lord has a 3+ invunerable but if you flank your TWC pack with a squad of fenrisian wolves then you'll get 4+ coversaves all the way into the fight.
I approve muchly of the runepriest & his psychic powers. Good choice. The only thing is; Does the SW rhino have firepoints?
Nice troops. Melta heavy is fine with the hordeyish wolves & TWC & Many missiles.
Nice heavy support. Missiles are great against all transports and en-mass will down heavier things (and squads, i.e battlesuits) whilst the vindi provides another point of well-armoured str10. Works well with the rhino's as it will draw fire from them.
All good - Do swap that wolf-lord for canis & use the points to buy a few storm-shields for the TWC.

Wow, btw, im an idiot. Power Armor Wolf Lord CANNOT take chain fist. Doesnt really matter, TH is a good alternative. but, as for canis vs. wolf lord, the points arent that big of a deal. also, only one TWC unit can take those types of special weapons. so, its only one power fist or one storm shield, etc. Does that change your assessment? I brought the wolf lord over canis because i could not take advantage of Canis's FW for troop ability. Also, the extra S10 attacks look really good in that TWC unit. You are right, however, where the SS might be overkill, since they are (at least, according to plan, heh) supposed to be getting 4+ cover saves across the board.
yes, rhinos have fire points, but i was going to be footsloggin the rune priest across the board and just casting living lightening from a safe distance until i need his JotWW, or, god forbid, use him for close combat.
Thank you again for you input. I'm glad the rest of the list came together strong. i was really hesitant to drop that second LF pack. More input welcome!

Nope - I had the same problem. Look at the ENTIRE selection of weapons/upgrades a ThunderWolf can get, not just the ones that are replace the same weapon as the thunder-hammer.
Topher21 wrote:Also, the extra S10 attacks look really good in that TWC unit.
The 7+ str5 rending attacks are really gonna help this unit out more than a wolflord ever could, for less points. AND you get the invaluble option to re-roll to-hit or to-wound (Wolfclaws). He is quite efficiently costed.
If the runepriest is gonna be foot slogging, get him a bike and a SS, otherwise he'll die to easily to everything and not be mobile enough for his powers - But a rhino is still a good firebase, even if he eventually leaves the grey-hunter squad.

ohhhhhh! good call, i totally overlooked the first entry in the wargear upgrades. thank you!!! get so sidetracked by fun things like TH's and power weapons.
alright, when put that way, Canis > wolf lord any day. in this build, at least. Thanks for the critique! but, for 30 points, i can only get one SS for the wolves, in addition to the power fist. should i get 2 SS, or an SS and a power fist?

Definately get the PF for your TWC squad. You need the high strenght in your list versus monsteous creatures, vehicles etc.
If you switch out your long fangs for another Vindicator and drop one Fenrisian Wolves squad for more Thunder Wolves you will hit there lines much better.
-Good Luck

Also, quick question. Is the Siege Shield on the Vindicator worth it? I know it is only 10 points, but still. I can think of a few things to do w/ those. Just wondering. Other than that, thanks for help, and the list is quite solid. Canis and the TWC are beasts. Grey Hunters never disappoint either. Thanks again guys!
