I see a lot of people using death hags for BSB over a Master - why would you do that, isn't she naked? With no save and T3, how does anyone expect her to survive? Do they just assume she'll kill everything around her before they can attack?

Death Hags are used in Cauldron lists. She is given the ASF banner and a ward save to protect her in combat. The Hag is used instead of Masters because Masters cannot join Khainite units.

A hag and a unit of executioners striking first with +1 attack from the cauldron will kill most things before she gets hit.

You can't put non khainite characters in khainite units. Putting a hag BSB with ASF banner in an executioner unit is the only way to make them viable.

The only good reason to use a death hag is the cauldron. And if you're using that, it's not a bad idea to give him the bsb upgrade if the rest of the list supports this concept such as having some infantry blocks around who benefit from the rerolls and don't outrun the slow cauldron.

TBH, the death hag BSB in the executioners isn't the greatest idea in the world. It makes them viable, but they still cost to many points when they take large numbers, and the character adds to that problem. BG are the better choice, even in a cauldron list. The issue with her in a unit with BSB is executioners are not frenzied, so a smart opponent will force that big expensive unit to either declare bad charges against birds or throw away units, or she gets pulled of the unit due to the mandatory charge rule that she has to follow.

As for the normal BSB on a death hag, if she has a cauldron, then it is fine. The cauldron crew have a decent ward save, and they can't be baited away.

Most of the time DE don't even need a BSB, so the only time you see one is when people have a cauldron and free points, or when they are trying some banner/unit combo.
