specifically from the daemonhunters codex, i've been advising a friend on how to beat my psyker heavy SW army and was thinking about a daemonhunter inquisitor (the elite slot guy) as an ally for his dark angel army. specifically, i was thinking adding a DH inquisitor with a psychic hood and null rod to his termi squad of doom. if the DH inquis doesn't take a psychic power, does he still count as a psyker and can use the psychic hood? the confusion stems from them saying that "many" inquistors are psykers and "may" take a psychic power. from RAW, i don't see why not although it still feels a bit dirty.

p.s. i realize a ld 8 psychic hood isn't great but it's better than nothing (since he always fills his two HQ slots so no room for a librarian there)

They're all still considered psychers. Nothing says they lose the psycher special rule even if they don't take any psycher powers.

If he's DH he can add some Hierophants to use Inquisitor's retinue, which will provide him with a much higher leadership.

Also, does he still play Dark Angels using Codex: Dark Angels? If so, he's pretty gutsy to be taking on Space Wolves. Rune Priest spam Space Wolves, at that!

Yes, even if a DH inquisitor does not take powers, he is still a psyker, and can still use the hood (or a null rod).

It was covered in the DH FAQ.

I had to reread that and think a moment. I seriously was thinking Apoc Tyranids.

It may have been in the past, but as far as I can see it no longer is (assuming it once was).

Even if it isn't, it's pretty clear. He has the Psyker rule, so he is a Psyker, period.

Yup. Rules-wise, he has the Psyker rule, so he's a Psyker even if you don't buy him a power.

Fluff-wife, maybe he has some trivial little psychic ability. Maybe he's a Pet Psychic.

Can you use a hood and a null rod. I would think the rod would negate the hood

The rod does not negate the hood. The Hood is not a Psychic power.

The rod and hood are both wargear so the rod dose not cancel out the hood.

The rod stops psychic powers from having any effect on HIS unit. The hood is for stopping attacks against any other unit.
