I got a small space marine army for my birthday, and I'm going to rebase the army and rebuild some broken models. I'm also planning on adding more marines to make the army into a competitive force.

Table of Contents (I'll update this with the page numbers of my posts as I go along)
-Update 1 - Page 1 - Start
-Update 2 - Page 1 - Librarian backpack and Predator turret/sponsons
-Update 3 - Page 1 - Some bases and Predator right side
-Update 4 - Page 1 - Finished basing first squad and army list draft #1
-Update 5 - Page 1 - Objective markers (banner and memorial)
-Update 6 - Page 1 - Predator FINISHED!
-Update 7 - Page 1 - All marines finished, first marine painted by me, and inquisitor/retinue plans
-Update 8 - Page 1 - Terminator Librarian and Veteran Guardsmen for inquisitor's retinue
-Update 9 - Page 1 - Rhino, Razorback, objective markers, and inquisitor's retinue finished, inquisitor WIP

To-Do List (GREEN= Finished)
-Rebase all the marines
-Reassemble the Predator & fill gaps between track guards and main body
-Fix and paint flamer guy
-Fix and paint chainsword guy
-Buy/assemble/paint a rhino
-Buy/assemble/paint a razorback
-Buy/assemble/paint inquisitor's retinue (veterans/sage/familiar/acolyte/inquisitor)

Planned Army List
HQ
Standard Librarian w/ epistolary (powers - Gate of Infinity, Smite) - 150

Terminator Librarian w/ epistolary, storm bolter (powers - Gate of Infinity, Vortex of Doom) - 180

Elites
Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor & Retinue - 182
-Inquisitor w/ power armor, psychic hood, combi-bolter-plasma gun, close-combat weapon, Emperor's tarot
-3 Veteran Guardsmen w/ plasma guns
-1 Sage
-1 Acolyte w/ plasma pistol
-1 Familiar

Troops
Tactical Squad - 230
-Sergeant w/ power fist, bolt pistol
-9 Space Marines including 1 missile launcher and 1 flamer
-Rhino

Tactical Squad - 175
-Sergeant w/ close-combat weapon, bolt pistol
-5 Space Marines including 1 meltagun
-Razorback w/ twin-linked assault cannon

Heavy Support
Predator w/ heavy bolter sponons - 95

Total: 1000

Here is what I have to start with:

A librarian w/ force axe (metal):

15 tactical marines, including a sergeant w/ power fist (metal), a sergeant w/ chainsword (metal, needs a new sword), a missile launcher, a flamer (needs a new flamer), and a plasma gun:

5 assault marines, including a sergeant w/ power fist (needs to have the jetpack reattached) and 2 plasma pistols:

Old, OOP (as far as I can see) predator (partially metal)

At the moment, I've partially disassembled the predator, and the glue on the reassembled turret is drying:

More pics to come.

This is all nice. I think that adding another five Assault marines to your squad would make it better. I found this out the hard way. Also a dreadnought and two land speeders would be nice, as then you would have the dreadnought to absorb most of the fire from the opposing force while your predator and the two landspeeders rush forward, thus protecting your marines. Also, you should make the Combat squad into a retinue for your leader, it helps.

Also, a closeup on the Librarian's backpack would be nice, the pack looks good.

Here's the requested pic of the lib's backpack (which is now attached):

Also, I've made some progress on the predator. The turret is glued and the pintle-mount and hatch are now interchangeable:

Hatch:

Flipped over:

...and so are the sponsons.
Right sponson (the heavy bolter is still drying, so I can't show it in place):

Left sponson heavy bolter:

Left sponson lascannon:

EDIT: I built up a part for the missing bit on the right sponson, and the sponsons are now glued to the sides:
Left side:

Right side (the top cover on the sponson [not shown] is removable to allow the guns to be swapped out):

Finished basing my first squad! Whoo!

Also, I've made a first draft of an army list to go with these guys:
HQ
Standard Librarian w/ epistolary (powers - Gate of Infinity, Smite) - 150

Elites
Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor & Retinue - 181
-Inquisitor w/ power armor, psychic hood, combi-bolter-plasma gun
-3 Veteran Guardsmen w/ plasma guns
-1 Sage
-2 Acolytes w/ plasma pistols

Troops
Tactical Squad - 230
-Sergeant w/ power fist, bolt pistol
-9 Space Marines including 1 missile launcher and 1 flamer
-Rhino

Tactical Squad - 175
-Sergeant w/ close-combat weapon, bolt pistol
-5 Space Marines including 1 meltagun
-Razorback w/ twin-linked assault cannon

Heavy Support
Predator w/ heavy bolter sponons - 95

Total: 997

The librarian will be joined to the inquisitor's squad and will gate around killing things with the sheer volume of plasma weapons they have. This squad is very anti-MEQ, as every model has a source of AP2 fire. It'll (hopefully) be perceived as a greater threat than it is, so while the plasma retinue is popping around the battlefield, the rest of my army can move around relatively unmolested.

This is nice, and for the basing, might I suggest getting some small rocks for your heros to stand on? it always makes them look better.

I got bored while the predator was drying (I attached the other side), so I started some objective markers. I have a dead marine holding a banner (like in the Dawn of War intro) and a memorial.

Banner-guy:

Memorial:

This guy will be attached to the memorial as a statue (but he won't be glued until I paint the base):

No new replies? Aww...

Anyway, I've finished the predator, and I should have pics up sometime later today.

Liking the look of the memorial and banner guy, are you going to stick with the current scheme ?

I like the memorial statue idea, I might even have to steal it. It's pretty cool.

I also like the dead/dying Marine holding up the banner, but the base size is so massive. You should do something to fill it up more, I reckon, like other corpses, spent ammo casings and small craters. Stuff like that

I agree with Ronin who's post is more helpful than my own tbh lol you could also perhaps put some battle damage on the memorial ? i think it could look awesome with the right amount of weathering

I'd have an update, but last night, after trick-or-treating, my objective markers got stepped on...

I'd primed them yesterday afternoon and since my family doesn't like the smell of spray paint, I left them on the porch to dry. When we got back, it was dark, and... CRUNCH!

So, yeah, no update today.

Well, I have officially finished my original goals. Full army rebased and touched up:

...and here is the first marine I've painted for this project:

My plans from here will be to get transports and build an inquisitor and retinue.

The inquisitor will be a simple conversion based on an Emperor's Champion (see diagram):

If the emperor's champion has a backpack (it doesn't look like it from the pic), it will be removed.

The retinue (3 vet guardsmen, 1 sage, and 2 acolytes):
Veteran Guardsmen - 1 Vostroyan plasma gunner, 1 Kasrkin plasma gunner, and 1 storm trooper plasma gunner
Sage - No idea, any suggestions?
Acolytes - 1 Bretonnian damsel w/ a plasma pistol attached to her free hand and 1 Steel Legion officer w/ a plasma pistol hand swap

Sorry for the delay in updates.

I played a few games on Vassal, and my dreadnought did pretty much nothing for 4 games. I decided to change my list to include a terminator librarian in my list (my new list is in the first post).

Also, due to monetary constraints, I won't be buying a bunch of metal minis for my inquisitor and retinue. My plan now consists of the inquisitor, 3 veterans, a sage, an acolyte, and a mystic. The sage will be represented by an officer of the fleet, the mystic by an astropath, and the acolyte by a converted master of ordnance. The inquisitor's plan stays the same.

I build and painted the 3 vets with plasma guns:

Interesting plasma gun conversions...the barrels are from tau guns, no? I like it.

One thing though, I think the glow could be more subtle.. it kinda looks like some jokester did the ol' paint barrel on top of the door trick to them..

Oh and turn macro mode on on your camera if you can.

Thanks. I toned down the light on the bareheaded guy a bit, and it actually looks much better now.

EDIT: I also ordered the rest of my army, so I should start on that in a week or two.

Sorry for the large gap in updates, anybody who's watching this. I'd have pictures, but my camera's broken at the moment.

The rest of the stuff for my army came, and I got the razorback built and painted. The inquisitor/retinue and rhino are all primed at the moment, so that should be done soon too.

...Anyway, as soon as I get my camera working again, I'll have some pictures up.
