Subject: Which IG Superheavy to best complement a C:SM army?

I've amassed a decent sized force of UltraSmurfs and was thinking that it might be time to think about putting some recently aquired store credit towards taking the plunge (actually, more like dipping my toes) into Apoc. I can't really afford Forgeworld, so I was wondering about either picking up a Baneblade variant or fleshing out my C:SM to take advantage of some of the formations. I'm leaning towards the Superheavy, simply because I'm a unabashed treadhead and like big, shiny toys. Is there a way I can justify that in a "semi-fluffy" way (we're not huge fluff bunnies, so I just would like something fairly plausible)? Also, what would be the best variant to support a Marine force? I'm thinking of maybe a Baneblade for the flexibility (and fits the Marine jack-of-all-trades philosophy), the Shadowsword for long-range support, or Hellhammer/Stormsword for an armored push. Any ideas?

I can imagine the marines supporting an IG armoured assault on a city or fortress, so go with one of the close-range tanks, hellhammer/stormsword.

With access to high quality assault units, it would be criminal not to at least consider the storm lord.
The storm lord could hold a combination of dreadnoughts and assault terminators, roll up and deploy multiple units, who could charge the turn they pop out.
If you don't go for the IG super heavy ally, the formations that I have seen used with some success would be the vindicator linebreaker squadron, coming in from reserve, the dark angels datasheet is quite powerful, until your opponent stops taking ICs. The land raider armored spearhead combines the goodness of land raiders in apocalypse with a special rule that keeps them moving and shooting more often. That is also an excellent formation using the assault variants and coming in from reserve.
I have yet to play with the terminus ultra, but I think it would be quite fun, and if you started the game with it in a dominating firing position, and screened from melta-fire and assaults, It could probably do a significant amount of damage to enemy transports and super-heavies.

I've been wanting to pick up a Storm...blade? Whichever Storm/Hell/Bane-Blade/Hammer/Sword variant has the Volcano Cannon.
In reality, you'll probably want something(s) with SD to deal with your opponent's super heavies.

Stormlord. Nothing says awesome like a SH with 20 transported oblits that can all fire at different targets.

Shadowsword!, like KaloranSLC said, I think D strength weapons say Apocalypse like nothing else.
I do like the storm lord though. that huge gatling cannon looks so mean, and its tranport capacity is cool, but surely your ultramarines have a ride anyway right?.

Yeah... I run a fully Mechanized army with Bike/Speeder support as screeners. So the transport capacity doesn't really help me too much. Especially since I don't have stuff like Oblits or Longfangs to transport. That and does the gattling cannon do that well? It just seems to me to be an oversized Punisher Cannon.

But remember it's an oversized Punisher Cannon shooting (possibly) twice a turn
Hell buy that kit and some magnets. It's quite easy to keep the variants exchangable (even the position of the turret if you dare to apply some cuts to those parts ) so you can find out which Hell-Bane-Storm-Shadow-Sword-Blade-Hammer-Lord is in your favour.
They're all great in some way, personally I prefer the Shadowsword just sitting back and killing every turn. No, it doesn't shoot. Shooting could fail to wound. The Shadowsword kills. anything. literally.
Guess I should find some sleep though...

I think I may go with the Hellhammer. It has many of the benefits of the Shadowsword (S10 with Ordance for popping vehicles, AP1 and Ignore Cover... just shorter range), but it also has the Coaxial gun and is turrent mounted. Also, I could see myself actually using it in larger (2500ish) regular matches in my FLGS.
